Yes, there are actually quite a few lurking in the shadows amongst the whipper snappers. I'm 28 myself and even though I don't contact people often, quite a few of them were 30 or older.

Been here for what...9-10 years?
Started on /b/(where the fuck else?), moved to /r9k/, moved to /o/ and /fit/ when Moot shut it down. Went to /r9k1/ when it came back. Dropped /fit/ and picked up /vg/ recently. The advice from the fit board is... something else, RIP Zyzz.

Dropped /r9k1/ because they're sad and angry. Mostly, there aren't any good greentext stories anymore.
I legitimately miss my old computer because I had saved some good and juicy tales.

This is the first time I've seen older men post pictures in these kinds of threads! I've always been curious since women will often times post, while the men are way, way more hesitant and cautious.

>>24404642
>Started on /b/(where the fuck else?)
It feels like everyone besides me started on /b/. I wonder what it is that draws so many to that board and how they found that one in the first place. My first board was actually /v/ and I stayed there for a very long time until things started getting too vicious.
Even if the advice on /fit/ isn't always the greatest, their progress threads can be so uplifting. It's a bit surprising how insecure many of them are even if they're very handsome young men.

What do you like doing on here?
>>
What kind of hobbies and interests do our older folk have? Is there anything you want to achieve in the future, or do you mostly work and relax as much as possible?

>>24405609
In threads related to older people on 4chan? If so, perhaps I just don't visit these threads nearly enough.
I just came back from a party last night and people were shocked at my age thinking I was 8-10 years younger. It could be my voice and the way I carry myself more than my looks, though. Either way, seeming younger than you are looks to be a thing for many here.

>>24405631
I get it. I don't even have a reason to care, yet I still don't feel comfortable posting often. It's usually on /fit/ when I do decide to post myself.
This is a little out of the blue, but do you happen to be Canadian?

>>24405669
That probably wins the award for most interesting way to get involved with /b/ haha!
>>
>>24405690
Oh nah, don't think I've posted in any of these particular threads before. Generally hair, eye, or the rare "see what role you'd play in X" kind of things.

Hobbies? Gaming, writing now and then. Hitting bars for karaoke, which I'll never grow out of Mostly it's just work and home.
>>
>>24405631
This is an interesting sentiment.

I'm very near the age that the OP has indicated is "normal" on /soc/, and I've been an active poster on 4chan, often of my face and body, sometimes even very personal information, literally since before this board's conception. Because I'm so "young" I have far more to lose if shit goes south, yet I've never felt even remotely uncomfortable with it and nothing bad has happened.

I think that if you do post, you'll be safe, as long as it's nothing that might be incriminating in any way.
>>
>>24403923
yeah, about to hit 47 , shit aint so bad, the amount of "younger" women just keeps increasing, the thought of getting it on with a thirty yr old is quite appealing now

see you still look young, so you're good
i'm in the somewhat unenviable position of having matured early, looked pretty much as i do now since I was 14, which... at the time, was impressive. and now i'm 31 and shit's starting to slow down and fail on me (also side effects from some meds aren't helping) and I never even got the chance to USE it
and i'm still pretty much only into young looking chicks. and every day that's considered less normal.

>>24406425
Rate threads seem like they could end up a dangerous habit on top of overtaking the board. All they do is lower someone's self-esteem for a long while or give them an increase for a short period until they need that confidence boost again.

Do you play mostly western or a mix of both western and Japanese? I used to stick to mostly JRPGs when I was a teen and only now have been trying to get into western ones because they seem more my style these days. Do you have a few favorites you could mention? Action and platformers are games I've always been into from SNES, Genesis and the Sony systems. I've been getting into a bit on PC as well.
Tabletop games sound like such a blast! I hear about some people going all out in these games, which is what makes me so excited. I'd love to play with others together at some point in my life.

Singing in front of others would be an absolute nightmare for me! I bet you get a thrilling rush doing that, though. Are you pretty good at singing?

Do you have a bf?
>>
>>24407478
Aye, and the rate threads are pretty fucking toxic at times, too. I mean not too much if a surprise, but I prefer to get my cancer from b.

I usually prefer jrpg's. If you want recommendations, I'll throw you Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross for serious games (SNES, PlayStation) and Earthbound for its satire of the gaming industry at that time (also SNES). You'll need emulators.

More modern stuff? The story of FFXIII was great, if you can get past the shitty playstyle. Any Tales game is the absolute bomb. And it's more of an action rpg, but the Souls franchise, because I'm a big old spergy masochist.

Actually I'm a damn good singer (hard to prove here though), which makes it more fun for me, but I don't mind trying new sings now and then, even if I go off key. Also the more I drink the more metal I'll go. Nights usually start with Stray Cats or Johnny Cash and end in Rammstein or Drowning Pool...

>>
>>24407683
That's strange. It's not like one spontaneously loses ALL their interests.
You know, unless they die.
>>
>>24407598
I definitely know and have played those games (except for Chrono Cross)! They're fantastic.
I really miss the older JRPGs and the feeling they had. I used to play the Lunar series, Brave Fencer Musashi and the older Final Fantasy titles on PS1. I have missed a ton of classics like Grandia and Valkyrie Profile, though.

I'm not sure how I feel about FFXIII exactly. I felt it had a ton of flaws I could go into, but I'm not going to be a nerd about my thoughts because I'll end up comparing it to XII, X and even VIII creating a huge wall. I do want to say I think people shit on Hope too much and I partly blame how the game had so much information left in text that most people playing games are just going to skip over.
However, I did play FFXIII-2 and liked it more. I'm wondering if Lightning herself was my biggest issue with it. I was curious about the third game and I was trying to decide if I'd like it or it would be a waste to play it. I guess it's cheap enough where I can give it a go.

I've been wanting to try out more Tales of games. As of right now, I've only played the first Xillia game and I've heard it's not the best in the series? I wouldn't mind returning back to the world and seeing the characters in Xillia 2. The one I was most curious about trying was Tales of Vesperia and that never made it over to the west for PS3, unfortunately. Even though you said they were all great, do you have a favorite in the series?

>Also the more I drink the more metal I'll go
That sounds great pff! Have you ever thought about posting in the vocaroo threads sometimes? Sounds like it would be fun.
>>
>>24407739
they just all "Grew up" i guess. except they grew from mature teenagers who couldn't relate to their inferior peers to shitty manchildren caring only about drugs and partying, who were just done with anime and videogames. in a few cases they fell in with the tumblr crowd and found they liked the universal support they got (as long as they rigidly followed all their rules) instead of being gently pushed to become something better.
the rest of them turned out fine, but they got married and just moved on with their lives, so I understand why they're never around anymore. but that leaves me with, like, single digits of friends
>>
>>24407781
dude. seriously. symphonia. i'm not going to pretend symphonia 2 is for everyone (just for me), but the original is a masterpiece.
>>
>>24407781
Aaahh I missed a lot of the really old greats. Cross useless of a sequel and more if a spiritual successor. HUGE cast of characters and a very different combat style, but still great. Trigger is my all-time favorite game, though, bar none. Recently picked up the first Disgaea (totally butchered that spelling) and it's a blast. Took me until recent years to truly start enjoying tactics games, so I have a shitload of catching up to do!

Hmmmm...I can't offer character-specific input on any of XIII anymore, sadly, with the exception of Fro-Bro, who I loved. It definitely didn't have the feel of the older titles though. And let's not even open on XII, I'll be raving all night and then have to go play it again. To be honest, I think the series peaked at 8, but is still fairly strong. Though perhaps that's because it got so big that it's taking more time to fail?

Taleswise, I haven't found one I didn't love. The best (that I actually finished) were Abyss on PS2 and above all else Symphonia on the Gamecube. There's...dont remember the title. A new one for PS4 ice been playing off and on.

>Vocaroo thread
I've thought about it now and then. Ironically, I get nervous. I don't have to listen to my voice on playback when I'm onstage, and when I listen to myself, I get super insecure. Might try it sometime. If I do, keep an eye out for Darth.

>>24407835
Muh bro, yes.
>>24407782
See, I grew up but never lost my nerd shit or old musical tastes, just built on them. And as for those getting married and having little, that just means they get to relive all that awesome shit from our childhood. Mine were addicted to the old Sonic games for years. Hell, older one's better than I ever was.
>>
>>24407881
>Reliving the awesome shit from our childhood
I hope so anyway
I'm seeing a sickening amount of behavior-like-our-parents from people-our-age and it's like... did you not live through the same era of insane 80s and 90s parents that I did? why are you intentionally aping it?
>>
>>24407894
Learned behavior. I still catch myself at moments that I stop and just go "wow...that was my.mither speaking." Takes a lot of work to keep oneself from doing that, and still slipups happen.
>>
>>24407935
I mean I do that too, but I like those parts. most of them. There's a lot my parents did fuckin' right, and I want to repeat ONLY those parts
the parts about unconditional love, kindness, always pushing me to be a better person but loving me for whatever I ended up being, expecting me to follow through on my responsibilities and rewarding or punishing depending on results..
>>

>>
>>24407973
Aaahh I got you. Most of what I picked up is negative. Fight that shit every time I see the kiddos.
>>
>>24407996
I guess I was born old, I never cared about who society thought I should consider famous, I knew about the classics. I know that sounds hipsterish now, but it used to just mean you weren't a joiner, at a time when that got you PROPERLY shunned.
>>
>>24407881
I hear so many mixed reviews on Cross. I'm guessing it's a lot of bummed Trigger fans who wanted something just like it. I do know about the massive cast and it's super impressive! It looks like my list of games are increasing even though I have a pretty big PS3 backlog as it is....
Disgaea is a good one! I adored the game back when I played it on the PS2. Fun, goofy cast of characters and really addicting for me. I never did get to play the second or Makai Kingdom, but I did play the third (not as good of a cast personally) and I have the 4th, which looks like it'll be a good one. So many hours spent in these games holy cow. I almost feel like popping in Disgaea 4 and playing now.

I was actually disappointed by VIII. While I liked Squall a lot, I felt the rest of the party was lacking and I kept wishing more was added. I also just straight up disliked Rinoa and expected her to grow more as a person. I think I hyped myself up too much because I had played FFIX before it and I expected the characters to be more mature. I loved so many ideas it had, yet felt it wasn't executed as best it could and enjoyed it more when Laguna, Ward and Kiros were on the screen rather than the main party.
I'm one of the few that really enjoyed the combat system and how you could just cheese your way into being an absolute badass if you knew what you were doing, though. Triple Triad was a blast to me as well.
Personally, I would have liked to see a VIII remake over VII.

Thanks to you and >>24407835 for the Tales of recommendations. I was actually eyeing Symphonia because of the PS3 chronicles collection that was released. You specifically mentioned the Gamecube, though...Did they do anything bad to the PS3 version you know about?
I'll keep Abyss in mind as well.

As for your voice, everyone feels that way about their voice. If you listen to it enough, you'll probably get used to it. I used to feel the same until I started posting my voice. I'll keep an eye out for a Darth!

yeah I just don't feel old if I don't know who someone is. I couldn't have picked the new kids off the block out of a crowd when I was that age (well I guess I was a little young) either. it just reminds me i'm an outsider. Or it did, I got used to it pretty quickly.

Hippie pants reporting back, now beginning enhancement by the booze.

>>24408011
It did take me a while to get accustomed to the different mechanics and combat system of Cross. It was an entirely different experience altogether, which three me off, as I was expecting a continuation...but it was still very well done. And honestly, it would be cheaper and maybe easier to just set up an emulator on your desktop instead of having to buy a bunch of shit on the PSN.

Disgaea I'm mainly loving for the characters and the humor. I'm still not too good at it, frankly, and only touch it every few months. (By recently, I'm talking....maybe a little over a year ago...) But the personalities are hilarious, especially the damn Prinny brigade.

I can't talk too much about XII again, so on that topic, I can only concede to your stance right now.

I actually never knew Symphonia wasn't a Nintendo exclusive release. So many of the Tales games are just on one system for whatever reason, I assumed that was the case for ToS as well. Oh, and if you've ever watched Trogun or Bleach in English, listen to Lloyd, the red-coated swordsman. And Abyss is awesome, but imo slightly less so.

Hmmmm...one of these days. What's your handle in there?
>>
>>24408662
yeah Symphonia got TWO enhanced sony remakes. nintendo sure gets fucked like that a lot
not to hijack this thread straight to /v/ but what'd you think of the sequel? I get why people aren't as into it, but holy shit it was sweet, and its plot twists and ending blew my fucking mind. It might not have been a 'flagship title' or whatever they call it, but it WAS necessary to link symphonia and phantasia and bridge the gaps in their settings' rules.
>>
>>24408670
I hate to say it, but I didn't play it long enough to form a valid opinion, only a few hours in. It's on my list of titles to finish. I was angry at Lloyd, so I stopped...
>>
>>24408701
>angry at Lloyd
heh, I wish I could say that aspect gets a satisfying conclusion, but it's definitely one of the weak spots. Obviously they weren't expecting you to believe he was guilty of those wild accusations, but.. we still do get to find out some neat stuff that he does

But do they explain what the fuck he....wait. Spoilers. That person up there needs to find stuff out ingame. Sssshhh.
>>
>>24408724
yeah it all gets explained, it's just not satisfying enough to justify the buildup of 'holy shit the hero from the last game, what is he doing?' and more importantly 'why is it being kept a secret?' even though that reveal is a bit more clever

okay enough derailleur now. i just never get to talk about this stuff because /v/ a shit. also /a/.

I seem to have a problem when it comes to emulation. I'm not sure what it is, but I lose interest and hardly ever finish a game when I do try emulating. Maybe it's just not comfortable and I need to get a better setup...Or I know I want to one day have a massive collection of video games and consoles. Think of the scene in Beauty and the Beast where Beast shows Belle the library.

I think the characters and their interactions were the best part of the game in Disgaea. It's probably why it took me almost 2 years to finish Disgaea 3 because the cast was not anywhere near as charming as the first game.

From what little I looked into on the Tales of series, I saw how so many are on different systems and it blew me away. It's like what SE was doing with Kingdom Hearts. It's just confusing and annoying for the whole fanbase having to get everything or pass on certain titles. I bet their sales aren't anywhere near as good as they could be because of it.
Trigun? It's been so many years since I've watched it! I don't remember anyone sounding like Lloyd. I know that's the same actor who played Kevin French in Mission Hill and Robin in many cartoons, though.

>What's your handle in there?
I use my real name in regular vocaroo threads, so I'll just say I'm Yupperdedo in the FSA threads we always have going.

>>24408670
Two?! I had no idea. Baa who cares if the thread gets hijacked. It's more interesting to have actual conversations with people than everyone just saying their age and then buggering off.
You made me more interested in the sequel. I heard so many people saying to not even bother touching it on /v/, and I didn't get why so many hated the game that much.

>>24409725

>>
>>24409810
well remember how symphonia starts out as the most cliche rpg concept ever, for the first three dungeons, then turns out to be something more complex? even if the first twist was a little simple, it fucking worked, and got fleshed out
for some reason nobody wanted to give the sequel that same benefit of the doubt. of course emil is a little puss. there's a REASON for that, and a neat twist to it.
>>
>>24409810
I used to have the same issue. But collecting is a very expensive hobby, and brings storage space into mind as well. For display, I'll agree with you. But just to play, I'm perfectly happy doing it the free way and just storing everything on my desktop.

Tales has been spanning consoles since either GBA or the SNES. It's almost as old as the FF franchise. I'm not sure why they insist on releasing their different titles as different console exclusives. That never made sense to me.
Lloyd is the same voice as Cash. And Ichigo. And one of the old school power rangers. I'll stop myself before I go full fanboy.

Eh, TOS2 made me mad because it jumped into such a majorly different dynamic but retained familiar characters. You change to new characters, and every dynamic in a Tales game is new. I still got mad and stopped, but that fact kept me going until then.

>Yupperdedo
Huh. I guess I'll look out for that, then. Provided I remember your name after this thread archives. I'm shit on names.

Can't say I do since I've kept away from the series. I'll definitely keep what you said in mind about the second game when I do get my hands on the two! I usually try to give games a big chance and find something I enjoy about them, so I don't tend to drop games too often.

>>24411170
It is expensive and I'd run into the space issue despite having a few bedrooms at my disposal. Perhaps one day I'll win the lottery...Or get over my pickiness with emulating.

Oh, Johnny Yong Bosch! He's everywhere from Last Exile to Devil May Cry 4, so I know him well. I thought the "Cash" was you making a joke that Vash is Cash when I first read it there.

Both of you guys are making me want to play the Symphonia games myself right now to see how I like the two. Then I think about the huge backlog I have to get through still. So many games, so little time.

It's fine if you don't remember my name. I mostly just end up rambling about life, cooking and video games most of the time instead of anything interesting like singing anyway. People don't care what I talk about and just zone out with it in the background from what I've gathered, which is perfectly fine with me.

I feel the same way. Cooking is just so much fun because you're always learning and get to experiment. I've recently been watching The Great British Baking Show and it's made me want to get in the kitchen even more. I actually want to make a fruit cake.

I enjoy making everything!
I'd list so much if I went through everything, so I'll just name a few things.
I make some brownies that are really popular at parties made with coconut oil and brewed coffee with a dark chocolate ganache and salted and roasted pecans on top. I like these because the edges don't ever get hard and it's more fudge-like than regular chewy brownies.

Savory zucchini bread with cheddar or sweet banana breads.

A vegan soup with avocado, tomato, mushroom and barley that comes out so rich and creamy without any dairy.

I recently made some deviled eggs where I chopped up green olives and applewood smoked bacon with smoked paprika sprinkled on top.

Homemade spaghetti sauce, parmesan meatballs and zucchini pasta. Can you tell I like zucchini?

I also make a pork loin marinated in teriyaki and a bit of sherry, which is roasted with baby brussels sprouts.

I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. I roast the turkey upside down for most of the cook time, which makes the breasts come out as tender as can be. I add the vegetables around the turkey and instead fill it with oranges, apples and herbs from my garden. The fruit gives it this wonderful sweetness that permeates all throughout the bird.

I still went a little crazy with that list there...

What kinds of foods and meals do you like to make?
