Some people enjoy it better than others; in my case, as a major hypersomniac, I tend to lack energy to the point where it's often relieving that I don't have to be around my friends or people all the time. That doesn't mean I mind seeing the few I have every now and then, though... and that doesn't necessarily mean I don't wish I had the energy to see them more often, either.

It's different for me, though, since I'm a shut-in/'anti-social' due to physical issues than actual social issues. It's hard enough to hold a part time job let alone relationships... "very sad" indeed.

Support myself? I pull off some level of a job every now and then and eventually either get fired due to tardiness or just end up quitting after crying in the break room one day out of pure stress overload. I also do live with my parents, who are also dirt poor but can at least scavenge rent expenses. I can socialize well and can do high-quality work and will actively work myself to mental exhaustion out of sheer stubborn pride, so it's just a matter of when a job cares more about 10-minute-late semantics as opposed to actually getting work done.

How do I cope? ... uhh, well, I first attempted some kind of "I can stop being lazy! I'll work hard and believe in myself; if everyone else can do it, so can I!" kind of mentality and I just dug an even deeper hole for myself like an idiot. At this point, I accept that I'm essentially wasted talent and that I'll never be able to perform at even the basic level most of the population can. I've accepted that a normal social life is near impossible and a decent income is just much more difficult for me than anyone else through no fault of my own. I've accepted it and moved on.

In reality, I've just grown apathetic to myself. It takes too much energy and effort to actually hate things or get actually upset other things, and it's easier to sit here null and apathetic. I'm not depressed; I just lack energy, even if it results in depression-like symptoms; I can't even push myself to do things I'm excited for.

I was never an emotional person, so this is easy for me. That's not a talent most people have. It's also easy to avoid your own life when you're asleep for more than half of it, heh.

Other people actually have energy and opportunity to work with, so I'd rather help them succeed than expect my life to magically change.

No. I'm likely going to be prescribed some sort of stimulant like Adderall or Modafinil sometime soon, hopefully.

Either way, I don't believe it's necessarily going to get around my problems. I already crash oddly hard when I attempt to work at a normal level; near-comatose sleeps of 16 to 24 hours aren't entirely uncommon for me, and they happen the most when I overexert. It's the kind of thing where a small dose would be good to get over the first few hours of being awake where I might as well be drunk (excessive daytime sleepiness and sometimes the previous day-long sleeps when I try too hard are part of the reason holding a job is extremely difficult) but over reliance would just fuck me up even more in the long run.

Rather, there's something functioning very abnormally in the body, and while stimulants can help with the symptoms, it doesn't necessarily fix that abnormality.

A ketone-based diet did help me function [relatively] better, but most of the obvious stuff - sleeping 'regularly', working out (mmm, sleep comas), ingesting shitloads of caffeine, etc, the stuff that'd help normal people - didn't really do much, sadly.

Also, getting meth would take effort, which is, like, scary shit, man.

I can handle a 12 hour work day as long as I'm free to die the next day; I'd actually prefer working 3 longer days a week over 5 shorter days.

I was back to school today in my second year of my course. I didn't do anything all summer but work at my job, which had no real connection to my course. I feel like an imposter, like I shouldn't be there.

No real issues as a child. Puberty hit and it slowly crept up on me...

In middle school, I had signs of lethargy, but I just treated it as "lol I'm just lazy, fuck people bitching, let me play my video games and be late for class in peace". I had trouble getting work done and had major issues with perfectionism and writer's block - at the time, I attributed it to laziness, but I later realized it was due to creating an environment where I was easily overwhelmed and exhausted instead of just half-assing everything like I had should have. I had to learn that the hard way...

In high school, it accelerated. First few years weren't too crazy, but I did have issues getting projects and homework done; I couldn't do honors or AP classes due to workload regardless of my actual intellectual merit for those classes - hell, I was in basic English due to workload issues - so I basically disregarded the higher level classes. The last two years got very bad... it was impossible for me to stay awake through a lot of my classes, lunch time was never enough time for me to eat let alone gather energy, many days I just had to call out since I could barely awaken let alone function in class... I was in emotional support programs in school and had extensive use of my IEP, although the irony of having to stay for detention many times due to 'refusing' to do work is kinda bitter in retrospect.

Once I started working, I had major issues with lateness and obviously my employers disliked that. My attempts at college - both private and community college - were a disaster. I kinda accepted what everyone told me - that I need discipline, that I have so much potential, that I can do this, that I just need to work hard, etc - and went full speed ahead to essentially whip myself into gear with a 25-30 hour part time job and going to school full-time to pay for expenses I couldn't avoid at the time.

It was pure destruction to myself, in retrospect. I ruined many opportunities.

For me at least it was behavioural activation. I used to have depression issues for quite a long time and it took around three years or so of CBT to address that, but motivation issues still persisted. I ended up doing moderate scheduling of my day (big 2/3 hour blocks of time that I would set aside for e.g. cleaning the house, studying, playing games) and making sure that I do the stuff that needs to be done at the set time. It helped that i had no interruptions and lived alone back then (if you don't, you might require a degree of flexibility), but all it took in the end was getting a schedule of things I find important for leisure, getting university work done, etc and sticking to it for a few weeks. Nowadays I have almost no problems other than general laziness.

My mind is an enigma; nobody is smart enough to understand me, not even myself.

I don't really have favorite music/books/movies, but I guess I do enjoy mostly listening to rock. I never really got into reading, last book I remember finishing was The Omnivore's Dilemma, which was basically about the history of cooking and bad eating habits Americans have.
