Take the example of being with a girl you find attractive for a long time, who nevertheless gets into an accident that disfigures her. It occurs to me that at least some people would not cut contact just because they are no longer attracted to her, and this is an indication that either from the beginning or at some point in the progression of their relationship attraction ceased being the ultimate reason they were hanging out together.
