Can we talk about haircuts? I need some help and I'm sure some of you do too. Cutting it tomorrow but I don't know what to ask for.

Short on the sides and back - not shaved, just a scissors - and then a bit of length on top, say just over an inch. Leave some at the fringe too, so you can either leave it rest on your forehead or spike it up.
You've a nice face, just don't let any razors near your skull and you'll be fine.
The cut doesn't matter as much as how much maintenance you'r really going to put into it. So if you don't plan on doing any more to your hair besides washing and combing it, tell the hairdresser 'I want short and low maintenance' or 'I want to keep it a little long but low maintenance'. Then ask for product recommendations if you have the finances/time to do your hair.
The weird thing about this is you seem to have no idea what you want to look like.
I look at hair as an extension of my personality, expressed visually. People will make assumptions about you based on how you wear it, and I want people to think a certain thing about me so that I can overturn those initial preconceptions to produce an effect of depth.
How do you want people to see you? How do you want to look? If you know the answer to those questions, it'll be easier to decide how you want your hair.
(Assuming this is a fashion question instead of a logistics one. I've included a picture of my own hair for context.)

Mother fucking mullet!
No joke, me and my mullet

And perm that fucking shit on top!
I forgot to mention that.
Can I get some help with that too? I'm completely lost for ideas. Should I just go into my local barber shop and ask them to give me something?

I'd find you attractive irl/make out/date/fuck you with your hair looking like this. It suits you as far as long hair can suit any guy, but there are of course a lot of people for whom long hair is a turn off. I know from experience that it can also be a massive pain in the arse to style and maintain, so comfort and convenience is certainly another good reason to get it cut.
Like others have said, short back and sides is the standard GOAT look for most guys. Just spring for that and you'll be right. There are probably some inspo threads on /fa/.
Just don't get a douchebag haircut like this and you'll be fine.
It also helps to bring some sort of reference image with you.
