It's all the same. Epiphones are perfectly fine in terms of quality. I would suggest changing out the magnets in the pickup's and filing the nuts though. Your frets probably aren't level either.

It's really easy to do yourself. And a good setup should last you years. If it doesn't go to a different tech or hop on YouTube. Willseasyguitar has some great videos on it. His guitars are also some of the best you'll ever play

It's alright. Let those fools waste their money. I'm a production and mastering engineer in many DIY scenes. At least college taught me how to live a better, meaningful life filled with debt and sorrow.

That's a good idea anon. Professors these days are extremely lack-luster. There's the occasional good one but even they are limited. Push yourself beyond their teachings, experiment, break the rules, and learn everything you can.
