>>23274756
Oh, that's good to hear. Sitting on a bomber of it right now. Gonna open it Sunday for the Superb Owl. Do you get Pizza Port stuff out in your area?

Also it's Stone's new seasonal imperial stout. Americano coffee stout, pretty heavy handed on the coffee but it's pretty darn good. I have a slight bias towards black coffee so maybe I'm not the best person to listen to.

Whoops. Took longer than expected as I went into my dad's place and petted my cat that I haven't seen in like a year (pic related; best pic I could get with the little guy ha). Anyhow, that's pretty cool you got the day off. Right now, I work at a pretty decent liquor store. But, I'm waiting to hear back from a local brewery to see if I get an interview to work there as a cellarperson. What do you do? Also, I can't remember if I asked before, but what's your name? I have a terrible memory sometimes. haha

Having this one tonight. I'm enjoying their re-release stuff. Hopefully this makes it into their seasonal releases and isn't just a one off release.

>>23275355
I think it's 8%ish, considered a double stout iirc. It was deceptively easy to drink.

>>23284061
Definitely not as hoppy as the name implies but it's solid.

>>23285295
I had it too recently. It was more of a brown ale than an IPA to me.
>>
>>23286049
Not a stout/Porter man myself but hope it's good.

And you're right, not as hoppy as it sounds like but I actually am loving the hop level. Can't tell its 9.7% AT ALL
>>
Hey, I've got a question for you guys if you'll indulge me.

Is a high alcohol tolerance genetic?

I'm fairly new to drinking, so I can't really say much on my own, but my family has issues when it comes to alcohol. Practically every member of my father's side of the family with the exception of him and his parents were very heavy drinkers, and I think it might have to do with an oddly high tolerance to the effects of alcohol.

The first night I drank, I went through a good ~80% of a 750ml bottle of scotch in order to really feel it, and wasn't hungover the next morning. (I didn't drink any water or anything other than the scotch that night)

I'm relatively small in frame, and a little below average height, so it seems odd to me almost a whole bottle of hard liquor my first time drinking didn't severely impair me or give me a headache the next morning.

Am I making a big deal over nothing, or should I look out with this as a possible catalyst for my family history of alcoholism?

>Oh, and drinking that best damn rootbeer stuff tonight. Not bad, but truth be told it would be better without the alcohol. They really don't put enough in it to do anything more than make you have to pee.

Now Drinking: Crafted Artisan Meadery's Citra (Mead with citra hops)

At 12%, this was decent. Get an ok amount of citrus and a nice floral component. However, I definitely won't buy this again due to the price (too ashamed to say lol).

I'm pretty sure there is a genetic portion to it

And tha root beer shit is supposed to taste like root beer not alcohol that's why it doesnt haver more
>>
>>23286403
Well it does pretty much nothing. I wish they would have put a little more in there because it's not too bad. It would be nice if it did more than just make the next one taste a little better.

Word. I'm guessing it'll be a week or two before it gets to my state. Speaking of Xocoveza, I seriously don't understand why they released a 3 month aged Xoco Charred.

Now Drinking: Mother's MILF (Imperial Stout with cocoa nibs & raisins, aged in seven different barrels such as bourbon, rum, brandy, etc).

For an Imp. Stout aged in so many barrels, I expected a much more complex body. Still, this is pretty nice. Milk chocolate, bit of oak, vanilla, sherry, and more to it. Mmm....very interesting.

If it weren't for this steady supply of whiskey I'd be six feet. Drinking, smoking, work, exercise, sleep, food, meditation, therapy, even reading now doesn't make all the spaces go away. It's like trying to fill a hole with hollow objects. I've been fighting cancer for half a decade, dealing with trauma that I can't remember and the mess it's made of my mind. I just want her to tell me I'm a good person one more time, that she loves me and she's here to stay. Haven't talked to her in almost two months, stayed sober the first month and almost died. I've had friends die, came to terms with mortality, been abused, lost a child to miscarriage, had some bad break ups, but as little as it should matter compared to all that, losing her did something more. I know turning to vices is weak, but it makes everything so cloudy I almost forget about it for a few minutes. It's the best thing for her, but it hurts so much. Sorry to bitch, just haven't talked about it to anyone in a while.

Damn. Is that because of your job or just insomnia of sorts or....?

>All beer taste like shit to be honest

There are over 90-100 styles of beer. Depending on your area, trying looking for these to taste:

Brewery - name of beer (style of beer)
-Weihenstephaner - Hefeweissbier (Hefeweizen)
-Pilsner Urquell (Czech Pilsner)
-Oskar Blues' IPA (IPA) - Be sure that it's pretty fresh, as in canned within the last two months
-Lindemans' Framboise ("Lambic" with raspberries) - Not a good representation of a lambic, but it's good as an introductory beer
-Left Hand's Milk Stout Nitro (Milk Stout)
-Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout (Milk Stout)
-Hoegaarden (Witbier aka Belgian Wheat)
-Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale (Pale Ale)

etc. etc. etc.

Also, when drinking beer, be sure to pour into a glass. Drinking straight from the bottle/can is like eating something with a stuffy nose/cold.

>>23311350

true with most booze, especially red wine (which also needs to sit in the glass at least 10 mins or so before consumption)

There are so many (much better) weizen than Weihenstephaner..... is it so readily available in the US that you recommend it?

Enjoying my 12yo jameson. Anyone recommend any good whiskey blends or single malt scotches?
>>
>>23311672
it depends. cheap/clear spirits taste the same from a bottle, a glass, and a shot glass, but mid range and higher dark spirits are much better sipped from a glass
>>
>>23311688

It's a solid example for the style (for obvious reasons) and, yes, readily available pretty much everywhere in the U.S.

What are some better examples of a Hefeweizen then? The problem here in the U.S. is that some breweries put on the bottle/can label "Hefeweizen", but when you taste it, it's clearly an American Wheat. No banana & clove, big on the cereal grain.

>>23311697
If you like ryes, try looking for High West's A Midwinter Night's Dram.
>>
>>23311365
Hahahaha no. I'm exposed to all kinds of beer. My family is in the industry. I just don't have the taste palette for it. But I do much prefer it over other drinks. Wine is awful.
>>
Bumpin' real quick
>>
This thread is still up? Nice. What's everyone drinking tonight. Variety of Belgian Wheats here. Though I did snag a Hefeweizen I am looking forward to popping open
>>
>>23304418
I don't know any because everyone here drinks that piss called Bud Light
>>
>>23315405
I'm as surprised as you are this is still up. hahaha What Hefeweizen?

>>23315717
There's Jackie O's, Rhinegeist, Triple Digit, Columbus Brewing, Hoof Hearted, Great Lakes, Fat Head's, etc.
>>

> Hefeweizen in a can
> whatisthisatrociousness.jpg

Also: banana notes is not something I'd covet in a weizen. There is banana weizen for that.

Better weizen would be: Schneider Weisse, Andechser Weissbier, Prinzregent Luitpold Weissbier. But these may be hard/impossible to come by in the US.

Hell, even Paulaner is a tad bit better (but still not exceptionally good).

>>23316839
> Rhinegeist

Something about that name irks me. That weird combination of English and German most likely. What style of beer is it?
>>
>>23316900
>banana weizen

First time ever hearing that before. We get the Schneider Weisse here, but I've never seen/heard of Andechser or Prinzregent Luitpold. What are your thoughts on Hofbrau and Franziskaner?

>Rhinegeist

It's actually a brewery that makes quite a few solid beers in Cincinnati. Never even thought about what the origins of the name is.
>>
>>23318419
>First time ever hearing that before.

It's something you get in a lot of pubs around here. Hefeweizen mixed with banana juice. There are other flavors available, but banana is by far the most popular.

>We get the Schneider Weisse here, but I've never seen/heard of Andechser or Prinzregent Luitpold. What are your thoughts on Hofbrau and Franziskaner?

Run of the mill mass produced beer for mass markets. Drinkable, but nothing I go "Hey, cool, they have xy here!" about.

> It's actually a brewery that makes quite a few solid beers in Cincinnati. Never even thought about what the origins of the name is.

The Rhine is the longest river in Germany, so Rhinegeist is a... weird combination of English and German. It means "ghost" (literally) or "spirit" (more fitting translation) of the Rhine. But Rhine is spelt Rhein in German, so Rheingeist would be a much better name... meh. I know I'm being nitpicky, but stuff like that irks me.

Going on day 3 of this thread. Annnnd Three days of me drinking. I might have a problem. UFO and it's actually pretty damn good. Is anyone around this Friday night?
>>
>>23318578
Who the fuck would put banana juice in a beer? Also, banana juice actually exists???????

Huh, that is pretty interesting on the German side of what Rhinegeist is. Maybe the person who came up with it has dyslexia?

>>23318726
Never had Morningwood. From the look of all the trading boards, it seems that it's not worth actually trying to get it as many people are offering/asking absurd amount of stuff for it.

Last Snow is my favorite out of all from Funky Buddha I've had (only had Last Snow, MBCP, Nib Smuggler, Hop Gun). If you got some MW and for trade, hit me up. hahaha

Got home from work a bit ago. Been drinking and doing homework since. About to begin more drinking and less homework, though I am by myself watching movies. Not used to not doing something or being out with people so this is odd for me.

Trust me, I'm nothing near 'super cool'. ha
>>
>>23322000
Personally, I am practicing gypsy jazz at the moment. I have been wanting to branch out musically for a while so I managed to take some time tonight to do so. I love pop-punk and metal. Yet I am currently playing for a really poppy band and I absolutely love it. The music we've been making has been so much fun.

>>23322014
Kraken is great! I got really into black spiced rum because of that actually. Also had a lot of drunken nights because of it. Ripped the Sun visor out of my car one night because of it actually.

We are pretty damn cool, I agree. Yourself included.

ill prob nostalgia with some 2000s shit from when i was in middle school and be a+++

anyway thanks <3
>>
>>23322022
That's pretty cool. Man, I haven't listened to pop-punk/related in yearsss. The only punk band I actually listen to these days is The Bouncing Souls. Anyhow, good on you for actually pursuing what you love and doing something about.

>>23322041
What size bottle, though? Could be one of those shot sized bottles for all we know. hahaha

Nostalgia with something ala Third Eyed Blind, Blink 182, etc.?

>>23322038
Nah, man. You underestimate the level of failure I am. hahaha

Fuck. If anyone is cool here in this thread tonight, it'd be you.

I used to play guitar every single day, but then life happened and I haven't seriously practiced in years.
>>
>>23322080
lol i cant remember. its prob 2 liters though. and like, third eye blind is awesome. 182 i never got into idk HOW. because thats all fucking people around me ever listened to
>>
>>23322092
Nah man, don't be so sure. I feel I am blindly pursuing something. Trying my ass off and I might never amount to anything. But I am having a hell of a time in the process. Traveled so much in the last three years. I just recently started my own band. Here is a link I'll temporarily leave up, so check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeyAo9WW8xg
It's unlistend since it is unfinished. We copyrighted it and are mastering it now, but this is still our rough version.

>>23322112
So what are you listening to? Yellowcard has been my shit lately!
>>
>>23322112
If this was, like, 2004, I would tell you to step back from that ledge my friend and listen to 182. However, it's just like any other 'mainstream' band I suppose?

Only 2 liters? C'mon, you can finish the whole thing tonight. I believe in you!

>>23322126
Well, I mean, at least you have the confidence to do it and also play in front of crowds. I wish I could tour the U.S. even just to explore these wild plains of land.

It's funny, I'd never bought anything from Stone before, despite not being all that far from their hometown, and generally being a guy who likes trying new craft/microbrew beers. My usual store had a variety 12 pack of their stuff, so I figured I'd try it.

This "delicious IPA" lives up to its name, I think.
>>
>>23322202
Asheville, of course. Their IPAs are on

>>23322213
From a thumbnails view you vaguely resemble Seth Rogen.
>>
>>23322213

Hopefully it was still relatively fresh. Good to hear you like their stuff. California is blessed with soooo many good breweries within arms reach.

>>23322217

You try any of their sours/barrel aged offerings? Also, heard of Burial Brewing?
>>
>>23322217
>Seth Rogen.

Haha I got that so fucking much right after The Interview came out.

I went to a con right around that time, and my evenings were an endless succession of:

>Hey, has anybody ever told you you look like Seth Rogen?
>Only 6 other people in the last hour...

Not that it bothers me now, though, since it's been a good year, and besides, it's better to look like a famous actor, even a dorky one, than a Chomo or some shit lol.

>>23322220
It seems to be pretty fresh, I go to that liquor store every few days and this was the first time I saw that case on their shelves, so it should be pretty new. This one is a pretty good beer, too. The others varied, Ruination was OK but made me feel shitty after a few, Pataskala Red was mediocre, and the Cali-Belgian is pretty awful IMO, but I'm not a big fan of sweet beers.
>>
>>23322195
im on the east coast
its been like since 2004 since ive been hearing the song lol
>>
>>23322254
Oh god you are living life like me at the moment then. I have class at 9am, NC representing here. It's not a bad song at all, I had almost forgot it existed. I managed to get into Neck Deep now, been all over the board tonight.

>>23322245
Ah, sorry to sound like a broken record. I don't think it's a bad thing though. I have people tell me all the time I look like someone. Granted I never get one single person, people always just say I look like someone. Maybe I am generic?

>Who the fuck would put banana juice in a beer? Also, banana juice actually exists???????

Mixing beers with juice or sodas is actually very common here. Wheat beer with lemonade is popular in the summer, same as regular beer with lemonade. In other areas, beer with coke is a common thing.

>I mean, I'm familiar with radlers and the like. It was more the fact of people using banana juice specifically that I am bewildered about.

It has been a thing for a over a decade or so now. No idea how and when it came up, but for as long as I can remember friends of mine have been drinking bananenweizen at pubs. Never been a big fan of it (I rarely drink weizen as it is).

>Bruh, you makin' a funny about us Mericans?

Damn right I am.
No, actually I'm just still, after all these years, bewildered as to the whole "I'm 1/8 Cherokee, 1/16 Irish, 1/128 Russian" etc. thing. No one gives a rat's ass, you're American and that's that.

At most, referring to your heritage makes sense if it's "yea, my mother is Mexican and my dad is from the US".

But that's just my opinion.
