why are brainlets seemingly so incapable of making rough approximations and averages? why do they always respond with shit like "it depends" or "every day is different" to simple questions like ones assign about the length of their daily commute?
>>
Well it depends.

Every brainlet is different.

What, me generalize?
>>
This is something I've noticed about left-leaning folks, they are utterly incapable of thinking in terms of probability distributions, averages and expected values. Instead they can only consider concrete, individual cases.

You ask those questions for a reason, and your answer may be more or less useful depending on the context in which the question is asked.
To use your example of a daily commute, here are 2 examples where different answers may be more appropriate. Assume a daily commute that varies by aprox. 1 hour but is the same every week.
>You ask because you want to know how long they waste in transit on a weekly basis, in which case a mean would be appropriate but a total number of hours would be more useful.
>You ask because you want to know approximately how long it will take them to do a task on a certain day or what time they would be able to do a task on a certain day in which case the transit length for that particular day would be more useful than a mean.
