Dolphins have about as many brain neurons as humans, some species having up to 1.5 times more neurons than us, so why haven't they developed some kind of society or civilization that resembles that of humans, even if very primitive? Can we at least consider them conscious like us humans, even if they don't understand language? Shouldn't we regard them as superiors, I mean, still lesser than humans but significantly superior to gorillas? And, considering their intelligence, do you think dolphins pose an existential threat to humans? I mean, maybe they're just playing cute and secretly developing an army of mecha suits to exterminate humankind in their secret underwater caves. Do you think that's possible?

First of all, the encephalization ratio (brain-size-to-body-size ratio) is not a correlate to intelligence. Brain size mostly correlates to body size, as a larger body requires more brain to control.

Second, humans are very much a sort of "renegade" animal, our society is a side effect of our socialization and abstract reasoning skills, it's not an adaptation in any meaningful way. This is extremely apparent in a lot of our societal problems, which are either caused or exacerbated by our tribalist minds.

Dolphins simply are not in a position to accidentally create society, probably because they don't have access to any way to retain data (language), which was arguably the catalyst for the development of agriculture.

>Can we at least consider them conscious like us humans, even if they don't understand language?
Many animals are conscious, and many more are self-aware, including dolphins, octopi, corvids, elephants, and many great apes, to name a few.

>Shouldn't we regard them as superiors, I mean, still lesser than humans but significantly superior to gorillas?
No. Why would we?

>And, considering their intelligence, do you think dolphins pose an existential threat to humans?
No.

>And, considering their intelligence, do you think dolphins pose an existential threat to humans? I mean, maybe they're just playing cute and secretly developing an army of mecha suits to exterminate humankind in their secret underwater caves. Do you think that's possible?
No.

Dolphin here, you guys are fags.
>>

Isn't there some recent analysis that revealed their brains are fattier than land mammals making them closer to the neuron to body weight ratio of a dog, but perhaps slightly better than a dog, while whales rate around cows?
>>
>>9163418
>probably because they don't have access to any way to retain data (language)
They actually do.

No fingers.
No possibility of fire.
Access to materials to make tools somewhat limited.
Also, why do you assume brain/intelligence automatically trends towards human-like society?
>>
>>9164845
Sagan rated whale songs at storing millions of bits of data, the DNA of large mammals at storing many billions of bits, the brains of higher mammals at 10,000 times the bits of their DNA, and the ability to store information outside our brains and network being limited only by the size of the universe.

^THIS^
Neanderthals had brains up to 20% bigger than our brains now, and yet we pozzed thier asses. The extra brain matter was in the back for extra body control unlike us with more pre-frontal cortex for more abstract thought. They also had much larger (and wider) bodies than us.

If they were alive today they would probably be exceptionally good athletes with very precise muscle control and superior strength, just like some "varieties" of humans now.

>The extra brain matter was in the back for extra body control
Oh? That is where the visual centre is located. I thought they had significant better vision than us.

Apparently Dolphin pussy is amazing. Anyone fucked a Dolphin before? For Science, of course.
>>
>>9163072
Because Jesus said the bible means that humans are the only ones smart, duh. God made animals dumb and not smart because people are special like god.

>>9163072
>Trivialising intelligence down to a single number and trying to derive some sort of hierarchy of superiority
At least it's not IQ this time, but this board is dumber than /x/ at time
>>
>so why haven't they developed some kind of society or civilization that resembles that of humans, even if very primitive?

Because humans cheat the system, not only are we social animals but we can also write/draw shit down on various mediums. Thus we offload a large chunk of neurological investment to be used for expanding existing information further.
>>
>>9163072
Animals are capable of making their social groups. What is more interesting is that animals of different species can actually communicate and understand, though limited, each other. This is how dogs can be trained for example.

I will admit that science has not given us a clear or direct answer to why humans are so distinct from animals. It supports the idea that God made humans utterly unique from animals for a divine purpose.

>>

I assume it's for the same reasons that africans can't do those things.
>>
>>9163072
the total size of the brain is not important, only the region responsible for abstract thought

also you can' make fire under water or do much using a trunk as you can with hands
>>
>>9165424
they were probably superior to homo sapiens in every way, except for the fact that homo sapiens socialise and collaborate more, also have a longer maturation period, meaning stronger bonds with others. So it was probably just a tendency to propagate and collaborate in the early stages of our worldly growth that got us here.

Dolphins are brainlets compared to octopi. They also have 8 highly manipulable arms so they could feasibly develop a sign language and a writing system by making knots in strings of seaweed or some shit like that.
>>
>>9163072
They are superior and that is the exact reason why they don't develop human-like civilization and language.
>>
>>9163072
Because their anatomy (no feet, no legs and much more) is not condusive to human type civilisation and because their lifestyle and ecosystem doesn't allow it either.

We need to hybridize humans and dolphins. Or put the brain of a dolphin in the body of a human. What would a dolphin do if it had hands?...

If dolphins are so smart, why do they rape everything?

volcanoes arent fire
>>

>>9167440
The point of fire is to smelt ores and make tools, you could do that with volcanic heat just as well. Although maybe with all the water that shit cools too quickly to really work the metal.

>Patterson's work has garnered some controversy as several former employees have questioned her scientific methods and findings, her attention to the welfare of the gorillas, and her overall professionalism. One allegation, made by former employees, said that she would routinely show her nipples to Koko and demand that other employees, both female and male, present their nipples to the gorilla. A sexual harassment lawsuit over this matter was settled out of court.

I've seen crows and octopuses use and make (sort of) tools, but not a dolphin. I think it's probably because arms or at least limbs of some kind to really use basic tools, let alone develope advanced technologies.
>>
>>9163072
The day to day of a dolphin is a relatively casual hunt with scant few predators and little danger, all while swimming around hanging out with your mates. They have no taxes, no government, no conflict. Tell me how they're not superior.
>>
>>9163072
They don't really have the necessary opportunity to develop civilization. We did.
