Where is science heading? Specifically computer science. How

Where is science heading? Specifically computer science.

How would one "future proof" himself in this field?
I feel like computer science changes by the day. Same must be in other fields, right? An engineer can't expect his college knowledge be 100% relevant or most effective 15-20 years after graduation.

I am in CS grad school atm and I don't see how the field changes by day, quite the opposite. Shit that Turing figured out is still true today. Just don't make the mistake and go into webdev (I feel slightly dirty to name this in the same context as computer science, there are smart people doing it tho too)

Maybe I'm just over thinking it. I feel like programming is always an option but it's not the only option.
Take cybersecurity for example, I don't know much about it but it feels like you have to be up to date all the time

You can't future proof yourself for computer science. Computer science knowledge has a half-life of years at best. In dome parts of CS the knowledge half life is down to weeks.

Name one that is not shit-tier wannabe-cs webdevelopment.

On the other hand we have timeless knowledge such a PL research, lambda calculus, relational calculus (as base for SQL), analysis of algorithms, computer hardware design, software verification and many others.

Yeah of course the knowledge get's old fast in hype areas as cloud (kinda cooled down now) or machine learning. Still, even those have very fundamental and timeless basics (i.e. linear algebra.) Just keep in mind that AI is already old as shit, the fuel we got today is not some new innovation, it is basically hardware for massive parallel computation.

Here is how I do it: Pay attention to the basics (math especially, datastructures and algorithms, basic network topologies, some low-level shit etc.) + don't go all in with AI. I tought myself Java for example by implementing some very simple genetic algorithms in that. I also spend some time reading about deep neural networks and have a buddy in optical recognition which whom I chat about machine learning. I won't go further into the AI hype tho. AI is here to stay, but I will also stay without 90% of people doing it currently. If you have actual interest in any topic (including AI), go for it tho.

To the grave
>>
why no webdev?
>>
>>9160250
it's not computer science
>>

webdev in itself has many topics that are part of compsci (mainly software engineering, networking then more obscure topics such as formaly proving a javascript program is error-free).

unfortunately, web development suffers from it's great accessibility. There are just many people doing it and the tools and techniques are catered to that big audience. Also technology changes insanely fast.
