>make a pencil that is a lightyear long
>stand a lightyear from earth and hold the erasure end
>move it around to write to a note on earth

FTL communication.

No
>>
kinetic energy doesn't move faster than light
>>
>have dildo a lightyear long
>have friend stand on end of dildo
>dilate boipucci faster than the speed of light

Nothing is perfectly rigid. The movements of your pencil would move as a wave along its length, and actually transmit information much slower than the speed of light.

tell this to my dick when my sweetie bends over. Its pretty damn close to perfectly rigid.
>>
>>9157124
But significantly shorter than a light year.
>>
>>9157127
Its 8 light inches

what a dicklet

And pencils aren't light-years long.
How would OP be wrong if the pencil was perfectly rigid?
What laws would be broken?

Uncertainty Principle, for one.

We can observe this effect with a laser pointer or something, or in certain astronomical objects. It's called a light echo, The pattern made by the light striking the object takes place faster than light speed but nothing is actually moving faster than light. Say you took a laser pointer and pointed it at some distant planet, wiggling your hand would cause the dot made by the laser to move across the surface of the planet faster than lightspeed, but the light itself is still traveling in a straight line at the speed of light. This doesn't work with objects as the energy required to accelerate an object to lightspeed is infinite. The amount of energy simply does not exist within our universe. As for the perfectly rigid pencil, it would just snap. I don't know what would happen if it was perfectly rigid and unbreakable, presumable just drift to the most powerful source of gravity and chill there for all eternity, would probably have some funky black hole interactions, but I'm getting off topic.
For more info on light echoes/ apparent superluminal motion check out V838 Monocerotis.

Any kinetic energy put into the pencil will propagate at the speed of sound in the medium, which is 3300-5000 meters/sec in wood. This is about 3 miles per second, or about 0.001% C.
