Will the western world every be as supportive of space exploration as it was in the sixties? The general public seem completely uninterested these days, especially now that we're almost exclusively sending robots up.
>>
>>9149962
No, the welfare state forbids spending on large projects.
>>
>>9149962
We already have the ICBMs perfected, no point in investing in it anymore.
>>
>>9149962
it would take a massive paradigm shift in general culture for the masses to care about space exploration. Even in the sixties they didnt actually care about space exploration itself but rather the symbolism. Then they fucked it for good with all the deaths in the 80-90s.
>>
>>9149982
is this a joke? putting aside the idea of a true welfare state, lets look at some socialist democracies existent right now. All of them have massive expenditures on social programs with healthcare generally being one of the largest non essential projects
>>
>>9150052
Shut up, commie.
>>
>>9150052
>healthcare
>non essential
Yikes... imagine being this inhumane
>>
>>9150115
from the point of view of the state its non essential, in no way do I think in practicality is healthcare non essential
>>
>>9149962
No, we're fucked and doomed to stay in this planet for most of this century even as our planetary population reaches 10 billion. To the right you have nutcases who just want to cut, cut everything except military spending, and to the left you'll get people who will start whining why we aren't giving money to starving children and refugees instead of going to the moon. Whatever happened to the notion of national greatness?
If someone can actually make it to space in great scale, it's the Chinese. They're pretty much the only nation as far as I can see that has the drive, focus and resources to do it.
>>
>>9150115
It's not the governments job to give you health care you commie
>>
>>9151854
But then you remember that they are Chinese; they can't even get a moon rover to work in 2015.

Nah, nasa still has the skill and knowhow, they have done a great job of both attracting new talent and keeping their greybeards. All that's needed is the budget, which is whenever an election cycle demands it.
>>
is he /ourguy/?
>>
>>9150052
>All of them have massive expenditures on social programs
My point exactly. And none of them have massive expenditures on space programs. People in the 60s were actually whining that too much money was being wasted on the apollo program and not enough on gibs.
>>
>>9151854
>Whatever happened to the notion of national greatness?
it's too oppressive
>>
>>9149962
For we have seen the true face of manned space exploration. Tedious, slow, boring, and utterly without scientific benefits.
A single rover, satellite or space telescope can achieve more than all the manned missions put together.

Why in the hell should whites be wasting money on space exploration when there are billions of low iq sub humans we could be feeding instead.
>>
>>9149962
Rose-tinted glasses.
There was a lot of opposition to spending so much money going to the moon and basically achieving nothing. The only reason it was politically feasible was as a dick-measuring contest with the Russians.
Exotic soil samples just aren't that fucking important, senpai.
>>
>>9151854
>Whatever happened to the notion of national greatness?
What if my idea of national greatness involves a nation full of healthy, happy people? In what way would sending a couple of humans into space make my nation great?
>>
>>9149962

No one conceives of space as qualitatively alike the things that comprise their reality. By Materialists' own measure, according to which self-referential consensus is the definition of reality, space is not real.
>>
>>9150052
>is this a joke
No. Any time you spend a lot of tax money on something that is not welfare, you will get attacked with "this money could have been used to help x,y,z".
>>
>>9151968

>suborbital pleb

No. These are /ourguys/

>Will the western world every be as supportive of space exploration as it was in the sixties?

It never was, even in the 60s it was just fear of Russia and not support for space exploration. There will be no unlimited budgets. The key to space exploration is lowering costs, so that more is achieved with handful of $ billions available for space. And boy, is there PLENTY of space (pun intended) to lower costs. Anything space is ridiculously overpriced. There is no deep reason why a rocket launch should cost hundreds of millions.
>>
>>9152064

Then I would call you a retard for believing in equality of outcome instead of equality of opportunity

Economics is fuelling LEO operations. Once launch systems become cheaper or some crazy venture capitalist is willing to be money on asteroid mining things will go a bit faster. Bit space isn't for humans, it'll be robots up there working for us.
>>
>>9152194
But*
>>
>>9152043
We can do both. We have plenty of food.
>>
>>9149962
America still needs to dump billions into the military to maintain hegemony and the petrodollar, and Billions more into the welfare state.
and the initial costs of getting industries going in space are still rather high despite their potential for profit
>>
>>9152170
That fatty doesn't look too hungry to me

We tend to forget the resistance to Apollo, based on "spending money in space instead of her eon Earth," as if any money ever been spent anywhere other than on Earth.

>What if my idea of national greatness involves a nation full of healthy, happy people

How is that incompatible with major technological and scientific programs? Unless you think the Apollo rockets were fueled with actual dollar bills, and they carried more millions of dollars with them to leave on the moon, then you have to recognize that all the jobs created by the Space Program were created on Earth (event he astronauts lived here), all the money spent was spent here on Earth, all the technological advancements were made here on Earth, all the spinoff benefits were benefits to people her eon Earth.
>>
>>9149982
Divert 1% of military spending to space exploration, problem solved.

>NASA jumps from 19 to 24 billion
WOW! The consequences will never be the same.
>>
>>9152810
>>9152738
its worth remembering that NASA had a little less than 5% of the federal budget back in the mid 60s and the Apollo program was to continue all the way to 20
>>
>>9152200
Yea we did and they multiplied like rats and are now flooding into our countries and destroying the very thing that keeps them alive
>>
>>9152200
>give them food aid
>rapid population grow continues
>many countries like Nigeria can't feed themselves
>give them more food
