Of all things I cant wrap my head around how do we see distant galaxies and stars.
Do lenses, like, zoom to that distant place or its just about being sensitive enough to detect that weak light from those distant objects?

The latter. The photons are already en route. Your human perception just "ignores" most of them. Telescopes "pay attention" to more of them so get a clearer picture. But only so clear of a picture is possible, because as you would logically expect, the further away something is, the more lines of radiation coming out from that object have passed you. In other words, you can only perceive a maximum number of photons that reach you from that object, your human senses just ignore most of them.

Telescopes are quite complicated with lots of detection. They don't really use visible light but various other sections of the spectrum.

And why is it asenine?

The main thing that telescopes do is gather more light. Your pupils can only open to about 6-7mm but a telescope might have a primary mirror of a few hundred mm across. Because it can gather more light than your naked eye, the telescope helps you to see dim objects.
