Are you in the path of the lunar eclipse coming up on January 31, /sci/? If so, will you be watching/photographing it or doing any kind of backyard astronomy while it happens?
>Blood Moon
Fuck off.

probably fap

nah, it's cool though I saw the last one
where does the red light come from when it's in full shadow, anyway?
lunar eclipses are sooooo boring

It comes from light which transits through Earth's atmosphere. The light refracts and strikes the surface of the moon. The moon looks red due to a process called "Rayleigh scattering." If Earth had no atmosphere, the moon would actually be dark during total lunar eclipses.

What kind of pleb doesn't appreciate the aesthetics of a blood moon? Especially a total eclipse, aka a FULL blood moon? And you can get quite a view even just through a pair of cheap binoculars.
Seen a few lunar eclipses. Wish they were more dramatic, like turning full blood red or much darker, but the hour or more of totality they give is nice.
Guess they best thing they do is give contrast for lunar observation without needing a moon filter.

Yes.
I'll probably get a 400mm lens by then for it. They're pretty nice and you get to see them more often than solar eclipses (yes I am bitter that I have yet to see a total solar eclipse).
