Hi there. I made this question on /lit/ but they said for me to come here. Are there any good books on the basics of chemistry and something a bit deeper?
I study History at college, but since school I find chemistry the coolest of things. And since I am asking these, are there similar stuff on phisics and math?
I suck at all of those, but chemistry not as bad, and I wanna improve myself on the topics.

Thanks for any help.

Best way to learn science is by doing science.

Same thing with math, best way to learn math is by doing math.

If you were really passionate about chemistry, you'd overcome your fear of numbers to learn chemistry.

Anyway, my college uses this book for 1 year chemistry. Find a pdf online if you want it free.

The resources in this link should give you more than enough information to attain a grasp on chemistry and dig deeper if you wish to do so.

If you desire to know about the basics of the sciences, check the sticky for useful info.

Mondainai!

That book will cover the basic stuff all the way to I think nuclear chemistry. Also, you can probably get yourself a lab equipment online and do little experiments yourself. (Just don't be retarded). Maybe take entry level courses at a community college instead, mainly so you can take the lab class. Having a good professor teach it makes it more enjoyable to learn than teaching yourself how to do a bunch of calculations. I know because I've had good professors and bad professors.

Not sure about your level of experience, but I'd recommend starting with early stuff if your school days were a while ago.
I'm British and we have GCSEs and A-Levels before university. GCSE is ridiculously simple so I'd just get the concepts of that and not dwell on it too much, then spend some time doing A-Level stuff, and then move onto uni level.
Helpful website I always used at school was chemguide.co.uk

Funnily enough, I'm a scifag who has always been interested in history. If I wasn't doing my degree I'd probably do that instead because I always enjoyed it.

This is true. I find the hardest part when dealing with the numbers (yeah, not great with them), but you may have a point. Maybe mixing something that dosent blow up will help me connect more with what I wish to do (and I am pretty sure the old ones did the same when they were studing chemestry and stuff). When I move to a house of my own I may try this.
Maybe some classes in college may help also. I always was curious to watch one, tho I dont realy know where they are and if I even can do such a thing in my campus (one time I tryed to watch a philosophy class and the teacher said for me to gtfo). I had greate professors, I was just a lazy angst teen who wasted he's time with internet and vidya in school (and this is why I didnt enter a good college even).

I tryed to do that, I even searched for my school books, but I have send them all away and the last bits I coundent understand shit, so I usualy give up. I send the last ones away yesterday and sometime I tryed searching for videos on youtube (some of them were very helpfull), and so on.
Anyway, I will do all you anons said, arigatou.

That's cool. Thanks

Not books perse but I love the YouTube series Periodic Table of Videos. I also enjoy the artistic works of Compound Interest and the graphics or posters they make. Simple but deep.
