Since gravity is inversely related to distance squared (exponent of -2), there is an escape velocity for which two masses will continue to move away from each other forever.
If the relationship had a larger exponent, say -1 instead of -2, there would be no escape velocity as infinite energy would be required to escape. This would probably lead to what you're talking about.
Interestingly -2 is also one of the only two exponents that results in stable, repeating orbits. The other is +1.

Because the Universe is spatially infinite, as far as we know. There's no "center", so there's nothing to revolve around. Conservation of angular momentum only came into play after the Big Bang. When matter was created, everything was spinning in some direction and never lost that direction. Everything seems to revolve around something because galactic cores can maintain their rotation indefinitely.
