Men and women have the same average intelligence but men have

I'd guess it has to do with the distribution of labor for the majority of human existence. Men have historically been used as hunters, soldiers, etc. Every army needs at least a few smart people on top, and some grunts at the bottom, which leads to variability in intelligence being acceptable. Women have historically been used as gatherers, house tenders, etc, and thus generally need medium intelligence across the board in order to perform properly.

It should also be noted that we're talking about intelligence as a whole, rather than more specific forms of intelligence that each sex needs in order to perform the roles they've been historically restricted to. I don't believe general IQ is a very accurate predictor of how people will perform at various tasks.

Duh, women don't choose intellectual challenging careers nor study intellectual challenging subjects in school and their brains atrophy away as a result. If we force women into lel goymmunism intellectual work camps, the difference would mostly disappear.

But the more important answer is sexual selection. Evolution could have selected for low variance men, and high variance women, it just doesnt.
