Everything everybody does is the result of their brain chemistry.

Everything everybody does is the result of their brain chemistry. What makes "mentally ill" people so special?

At this very moment, we are living inside the stomach of a dragon.

(Anyone can make empty claims out of their ass. If you want people to take your claims seriously, show your reasoning behind the conclusions.)

Current theory is exactly this, brain chemistry - specifically dopamine

>1950's, thorazine and haldol gets FDA approval
>D2 receptor antagonist
>lower dopaminergic 2 receptor activity
>hallucinations, delusions, agitation symptoms down

>>coincidentally, low dopamine contributes to Parkinsonian symptoms
>>Parkinson's is a deficiency in dopaminergic production in substantia nigra
>gross and fine motor movements affected
>pill roll movements, possible tongue fasciculations, rigidity, cog wheel arm movements, decreased functional status

>people taking meds to change their brain chemistry for psychotic patients become Parkinsonism type patients
>take meds to control brain chemistry to reduce symptoms
>new drugs target different dopaminergic receptors, serotonin receptors, GABA, and others
>meds also prescribed that alter neurotransmitter levels to control side effects

We are treading along a thin tight rope, where the best case scenario is trying to fit square pegs in circle holes as little behaviors or symptoms that are possibly normal are attempted to be fixed with drugs

So people with high amounts of dopamine (that we're unable to prove) don't have free will? But everyone else does?
>>
>>9099308
You're right, free will does not exist.
>>
>>9099325

Exactly.
Your first statement, that it's not concrete proof, is correct, I will explain in a second.

Your second point, free will, is more an existential philosophical subject.
Do psychotic patients understand their actions?
The answer, legally, is no. They are classified as incapacitated, unable to form and demonstrate decision making capacity.
This is measured in a systematic way in the United States healthcare system
1) the patients can advocate for themselves, if the provider feels they meet the criteria
2) if the patient demonstrates a lack of understanding, perhaps when a new medication or surgery is discussed (hey, we could do the surgery you request..... but it has a 1% chance of helping, and a 99% chance of your demise, and the patient agrees and consents, further investigations are needed by psychiatry)
>this happens a lot when patients seek unnecessary surgeries and shit.
3) any state of obtunded status, recent mood altering drug, or narcotic will almost certainly nullify "free will" in a court of law

Anyways in regards to scientific proof, the shit thing about healthcare research is "publish or perish"
You either publish scientifically/statistically relevant data to continue to receive grant funding for your institution, or you "die"
Look up p value hunting

So much garbage shit falls through the cracks.
If you're bored look up Xarelto/plavix studies and counter studies, there is a heap of counter articles that argue that the FDA approved dose is blatantly not the safe dose, but there are financial ties that link the FDA and the oversight board with the pharmaceutical company that holds the patent for the drug

The point I'm trying to make is the proof is only released if there's money involved.

If free will is real why do people say depression is caused by serotonin and psychosis is caused by dopamine? You can't have it both ways. Your brain can't be free and influenced by chemicals at the same time.
>>
>>9099308
Brain chemistry is influenced by environmental factors and vice versa. It's a reciprocal relationship.
>>
>>9099338

I'd suggest not combining subjective definitions with objective data.

If you define free will as a state that can not be influenced by neurochemistry, a state that incorporates a soul, or supernatural cognitive process, then you're right.

If you approach free will, under the definitions of what chemicals and how these chemicals assist us in formulating decisions and thoughts, than you can have it both ways, in fact, there are hundreds of thousands of "ways" with neurochemicals, electrolytes, hormones, and the several thousand pathways of homeostasis that allow rational thoughts to occur.

What's "controlling" everything though?

We respond to our environments, perceptually through our senses.

For example, fears and phobias. If you are afraid of giant venomous spiders, as many people are over thousands of years of evolution that generates the flight response to these animals, then we follow a hormonal/neurotransmitter pathway.

We perceive the threat, whether it's real or not (mentally ill people can hallucinate threats, or even normal functioning people could have delusions on the significance of threat, such as believing spiders are everywhere in your house).

We release a cascade that induces ephinephrine release, which in turn increases essentially all metabolic activity, and causes a substantial drop in rational thoughts as the focus is now fight or run.

Other pathways when we perceive love, shit like that.

It's a combo of many things, from subjective judgements to functioning endocrine/neuro systems among those others
