>Say something even remotely technical, scientific, or mathematical
>Haha dude, I have nooooo idea what you just said, haha
Why is this a trope on TV? Why don't they just say "Sorry I don't know what you're talking about" and feel ashamed of it? Why do they instead make it into a joke where they laugh at themselves and take it as a point of pride?
putting dumb people on TV in a way relieves viewers of the burden of trying to be intelligent. It normalizes brainlethood. You already knew the answer.
He's laughing because he knows he's the one who'll get laid tonight.

Yeah, because women as a whole tend to only care about arbitrary qualities that don't indicate much at all about the quality of a mate.

This, I feel like most of the social interaction ever done is just for the sake of interaction

>trope on TV
TV is made for brainlets.
>feel ashamed
Shaming most of your audience/market is bad for business.
>instead make it into a joke where they laugh at themselves and take it as a point of pride?
The audience enjoys this. It is good for business.

You mean real life

Yeah but on TV it's far more blatant and intentionally humorous, as a staged joke, as opposed to IRL where it's more spontaneous. So I said TV.

The thing is, most of the media heads aren't dumb, they're capitalizing on fools wishes to be in good company. "Oh look celebrities think math is hard too! Oh look celebrities cant remember where they left their phone too! Omg I feel so much better about my flaws! Now I wont make an effort to solve them due to shame!" Idiot shaming is a net positive for society, it can be applied without violating individual rights through media and should be expressed more in common culture.
