Just like how obvious it is that destroying millions of strands of constantly evolving viruses that will resist vaccine after vaccine while also making deadly viruses more likely to develop because of a busy immune system that can be affected by HIV and AIDS is much, MUCH more difficult than just sending a rocket to this planet's satellite with some people in it.

We have very little mastery over biology and won't for another few decades. The biotech revolution on the horizon will hopefully afford us better biomedical options (especially if CRISPR lives up to the hype). But I think mastery over life is our next great step (next to mastery of the atom, silicon, etc.)
