I'm trying to model a small submarine with thrusters on every axis for use in a linear quadratic regulator / Kalman filter. Do you have any recommendations for readings / starting points (textbooks or otherwise) in order to find the differential equations that govern this system? I must also linearize these equations so any pointers here would help tremendously.
I have basic undergrad engineering courses under my belt (calc, ODES, linear algebra etc).
Would something like fluid mechanics or dynamics be the right direction?

Trap the object in a spheroid or a geometrical rigid shape like a triangle or square. Mess around with placements of rotation by approximating via a rigid shape.
From just looking at that we can assume that the dog is a sphere.
