A line is one dimension. I feel like this picture doesn't get across that the lines of this 9th dimensional "cube" should be like 7 dimensions or some shit.

Informally speaking, dimension of a space refers to how many coordinates one needs to describe their position in that space. For example:

since your position on the plane can be described by an ordered pair (x,y), a plane is 2 dimensional.

Similarly, longitude and latitude make up coordinates on the surface of the earth
Now, instead of limiting to 2 coordinates, we could just as easily think about 3, or 4, or whatever arbitrary number we would like. The only practical restriction we put on dimension is that it is not negative. If you would like a more rigorous explanation of dimension, linear algebra is a good place to start.
