Why do otherwise curious people enjoy wasting time?

I often go on binges of learning, studying a subject for 10 hours, and I derive high amounts of pleasure out of it. But sometimes, I just watch silly vlogs or listen to music watching the videos, with no interest in watching a more "scientific" video--really, even a Khan Academy video or an animated crash course clip would count as productive. Why can't I extract the type of entertainment I need from more productive activities? Is the brain just so tired it is not interested in doing any kind of effort, and passive activities such as passively listening to music are the only type of activities that the brain can take? Are there more productive ways of using this time? I assume maybe doing sports, meditating, or socialising would be better ways of spending this time, but I would still prefer to acquire more knowledge.

Some people have different styles of working to you.

Some people may also have a different type of storage system within their minds.

I agree with that, but it doesn't quite answer any of my questions

it does if you just remove your bias from the equation. People are different than you, with different desires. They enjoy wasting time because that time is not wasted for them, "wasting time" is subjective. Do i consider the 2 hours or so a night i play video games a "waste of time"? absolutely not, it keeps me sane so i dont burn out from studying.

But how does this address the question for those who do consider a waste of time and would prefer to find ways to stop doing it?

you're like asking "how can i avoid sleep forever". you cant. If you're at a point where you cannot work constantly, even if you're trying, you've reached mental exhaustion. Just because some geniuses in the past dont seem to hit that wall doesnt mean we wont. Just be happy you can do 10 hours, im like a 6-8 myself, on a good day. Just find what you need to do to actually enjoy your non productive time
>>
You can't be "on" 24/7 you have to take breaks at some point for leisure.

For example even though Paul Erdős might be somebody who seemed to be "productive" all the time and he was taking amphetamines even he probably had some form of leisure to relax.

It's great to be productive, but you don't need to be productive 24/7 yes life is short and time is limited but there are human limits.

are you even trying to stay in the game?

Your brain is a biological computer with rationalisim. There are things that stimulate it, things that depress it, things that help it rest. There are things that reinforce what it learned/did in the past. This is the state of awareness we have that will be hard to duplicate in any machine. "Waste of time" is only a construct and imposed by an outside observer/force (read culture). The brain requires balance. Imbalance is upsetting, and is transmitted through out the body. Reread your posts and you will see that your questions are moot, and you can answer them yourself...
BTW, I just clicked I'm not a robot.

Long shot here: after learning, the brain needs down time to digest all the new knowledge. A good nights sleep works. Relaxing that appears to be wasting time might be an alternative during day time.

i feel that this is true, but only works if you can actually relax and don't think too hard about anything else in the meantime.
>>
>>9065095

otherwise your brain "locks on" to whatever you end up doing that isn't studying.
>>
often as i study my thoughts get progressively more disorganized and i eventually have to stop for a while. the problem is getting back to work after the break.
