Am I an idiot for pursuing a mechanical engineering career in nuclear energy? Is a 100% renewable grid really a good idea that can renders badeloaf power redundant?
I'm starting to question my decision to accept that NRC scholarship.

Renewable energy employs more people than all other energy sources together.
You would be an idiot for not going renewable energy.
>>9054427
+ Though it doesn't really matter, with a mechanical engineering degree you can still switch fields easily.

>growing rate
Do you even maths you retard? Growth rate means nothing

This is concerning because I have to work in the industry for at least a year, or else I have to pay back all the money. Now that some are insisting that baseline power generation could become obsolete, I could be going into a doomed and dying industry.
All my life, I thought that nuclear would be the cure to most of our ills associated with our power grid, but as we move towards renewables with battery arrays, I could be dead wrong. No one will ever stop going full NIMBY towards it, and it will be forever strangled by bureaucracy.
Fuck.

You can always join the navy.

I can confirm that NIMBY is now effectively a null argument for renewables. 20 years ago it was solid, but now, unless it's some kind of national heritage site, no one gives a fuck about NIMBY.
Nuclear makes lots of sense to those that understand energy; but energy is too political, so you can throw rational arguments right out the window.
>>9055608
Renewable energy plain renders baseload power plants obsolete.
It also helps that renewable energy are becoming so cheap that no one wants to touch subsidies hells like nuclear plants again.
It's not worth the hazzle.

Classic engineering spelling work right here

>Nuclear makes lots of sense to those that understand energy
What's the deal with the nuclear energy fanboys? Politicans doing not popular shit all the time, they are not supporting nuclear energy for decades now because it's not the best solution or even a solution in the first place.
