My advice is to not start from definitions and formulas, but rather to approach problems naturally and only learn definitions as necessary.

Textbooks are your best bet, look up a reading list for an AP or sophomore-tier course in the subject you;re interested in and get a copy of their main textbook. They tend to be fairly expensive but there's a big secondhand market in them and you can always pirate an ebook version.

This is kind of what I was thinking, however I am kind of looking for books explaining ways to interpretate thinks such as medical studies and the like. I just have no idea where to start with that sort of thing.

Honestly you should probably get multiple textbooks on the same subject and read through them all, then personally discussing what you learned with individuals who are knowledgeable on said subject and doing your own research to verify what you learned (I.E. Google)

Textbooks are shit. You must first learn how to think. Then let the textbooks tell you what to think from an objective standpoint, almost arguing with each statement. Only then can you unlock the power of the human brain. The only thing that makes you retarded is laziness and lack of commitment. honest to god wikipedia is always a good place to start the basic learnins of a subject. If you find something midly interesting then read up on it and if it increases your interests then go into deaper learning such as textbooks and then classic research papers in the field and then modern papers

If you weren't 'smart' as a kid it's probably impossible for you to learn how to think scientifically. Your best bet is to get a friend who is smart, ask them to explain specific stuff that confuses you, and hope that you can pick up some of the knowledge that they give you. You'll probably never reach their level but at least you'll be smarter.
