I know that physicists in general do way more calculations than mathematicians, because math students are more concerned about concepts and formalization at some level, but these motherfuckers are simply too good.
I'm currently studying mathematics at my uni, but my friends from the physics department are incredibly skilled in calculus, for example. They can solve or at least approximate ODEs just by looking at it, and their perception of the subject is simply superior to mine, maybe because they create a bond between math and real life almost every day.
Also, theoretical physicists. There's no such thing as "hard mathematical concepts" for them, it's like everything's simple. I envy those motherfuckers.
Does it make any sense? Pic related, a very smart cookie.

What is the point of this thread, exactly?
>>8847954
It's a stealth /pol/ thread. idk why they keep coming here.

>"Do physicists have a better understanding of mathematics than mathematicians themselves (once they can apply it in their work)?"
Sorry for bad english btw, just a regular monkey from Brazil.

Everything in physics is just a simple harmonic oscillator + higher order corrections. So it is all easy.

Is it? The man won a fields medal and it looks like it was just for fun, like he wasn't even trying, although I'm aware he's autisticly smart.

Maybe you're a brainlet and even physicists look smart.

Is the picture shopped?
>>8847983
what makes you think that?
>>8847980
It's a possibility.
>>8847983
No.

>friends from the physics department are incredibly skilled in calculus
>incredibly skilled in calculus
so your friends are incredibly skilled at baby tier math? This is why physicists are a joke.

Maybe you shouldn't limit your mathematical endeavours to purely abstract conceptualisation. Both good physicists and good mathematicians use concepts as tools to solve problems. Physicists are trained to do that, so they appear better (or smarter) at it in everyday practice. But noone keeps you from getting even and train your computing skills. Actually, speaking from my own bad experiences, doing so is highly recommended.

Teach me to be a god-tier problem solver. I've found that only learning math for the concepts is unfulfilling.
