Is there an evolutionary reason for why rain is so comforting?
Imagine sitting in your house and hearing rain and thunder outside. Its really relaxing for a lot of people.
Could it be related to renewed availability of water? Or that crops will be replenished?

How many predators hunt in the rain?

Yeah, reminds me of the morning I was enjoying a heavy downpour on the porch with a warm cup of tea until the lightening bolt hit about 50 yards away. Ahh, that smell of ozone with your ears ringing, tea all over yourself.

If you think about the tribal days, when rain happened the entire society stopped moving. You can't hunt when it is raining because animals won't be out in the open while it is raining, and the terrain is harder to move around. So basically rain made the entire "economy" freeze and no one had anything to do. Well, at least the hunter males. So maybe this is where the calm comes from. If you think about tribal man, in rain all they would do is sit in their cave listening to rain drops because their shitposting technology was pretty low quality. I have standards, I wouldn't shitpost in the walls of the cave I live.

I think it's cause you're inside in comfort. You enjoy the feeling of being safe and comfortable.
I think it's a natural instinct so that you find shelter when it rains

nothing like listening to the rain beat hard on my window with some light music playing in the background, heater turned up nice and toasty with my cat snoring on the chair next to me, maybe have a mug of hot chocolate
