Because you can learn a lot from trying. My grandfather is over 90 and they keep feeding him anti cancer medication. Every time they extend 1 person's life they learn a bit more for when YOU get sick.

fampai, that's the reason half of them perform the surgeries anyways. Because we DON'T know what happens. It's still an area of heavy research, and an area where data you can collect from live patients is the only way to perform the research, since it's inhumane to subject people to this without the medical need to.
