Are there any animal species, other than domesticated ones, that are newer than homo sapiens?
No, because God created man last, in his likeness.

Arguably every living species is new. The caterpillar of today is not exactly the same as the caterpillar of 1000 years ago. The sloth of today is not the sloth of 1000 years ago. etc
When a species splits into 2, it's arbitrary if you say one of them is the "same" and the other is "new". You could say either is the new one. Or both.

I mean species in the taxonomic sense, if they would call the caterpillar of today the same species as the caterpillar of a thousand years ago the same, then for the purposes of this thread, they are the same.

If your argument that every child is the same species as it's direct parent, then logically there is only 1 species on Earth because we have a common ancestor
>>8746029
That's not my argument at all. I'm saying that using the taxonomic sense of species is appropriate for this thread.

That picture triggers me so fucking much. It's a false equivocal. Biology and geology do not undergo the same processes REEEEE.

Yeh obviously. Thousands of species of bugs. Not to mention the millions of life forms roaming the earth that we haven't discovered yet

Under the Roman forum, in the cloaca maxima (vast sewer lines under the city,) there is a variety of freshwater crab that appears distinct from crabs found elsewhere. Because of some issues with restoration being needed, last time I looked there were no studies of the crabs due to safety concerns in getting more specimens, and a possible lack of burning interest in sewer crabs.
But, if, as it appears, they are a distinct species, they evolved in a habitat that did not exist prior to humans building it.
