If I stand on the moon and throw an ounce of gold in the direction of a large city,
will it be destroyed?
>>
>>8717550
No. It would burn up in the atmosphere.
>>
>>8717553
What about a cannonball made of Rhenium (boiling point ~5900K)?
>>
>>8717563
>>8717550
It depends on how fast you throw it.
>>
>>8717565
Just slightly over the moon's escape velocity, into Earth's gravitational well
>>
>>8717550
Yes the ounce of gold would be destroyed as it vaporized while being decelerated in earth's atmosphere
>>
>>8717550
depends on how fast you're throwing it, high chance that it won't be able to get through earth's gravitational well
>>
>>8717567
It depends on which direction you throw it.
>>
>>8717550
No, it will fall down and hit you in the head.
>>
depends on what angle relative to the lunar orbit and at what speed.

even if you got that right, the answer is always no unless you throw at relativistic speeds
>>
>>8717550
Yes because that will atract a Jew who will unavoidably bring decadence and destruction to the city
>>
>>8719119
the jew will attract hitler and wwiii will start

The gold might go around the moon and hit you on the head. Ever hear of "what goes around, goes around," "cause and effect" and "consequences?
>>
>>8717550
Is this an once as weighed on the moon, or the mass of gold that would weigh an ounce on the Earth?
>>
escape velocity of the moon is 2.38 km/sec

The worlds best baseball pitchers can throw at most ~160 km/h. That's less than 0.05 km/sec

So in other words, you would need to be able to throw more than 40 times faster than a professional baseball pitchers fastball in order to get something out of the moons gravity well
>>
>>8717550
If you throw it by hand it will just fall back onto the moon, retard

nope it would get shot down.
ada motherfucker!!

If you were somehow strong enough to throw an ounce of gold off the moon (let's assume you build a giant slingshot) then it would enter Earth's atmosphere and easily burn up in the atmosphere because of it's small size and if it somehow survives that it will still reach terminal velocity.

Asteroids that burn up in the atmosphere and manage to strike Earth about the size of a basketball (in other words, it's the size of a basketball when it hits the ground) could probably have the destructive power of killing 1 healthy adult man (but only if it hits them on the head, or if they somehow don't have access to a hospital)

The only way to throw a random 'small' object towards the Earth to do damage is to put a shit ton of force behind it, like firing it out of a powerful railgun.

Will what be destroyed? The moon, the gold or the city?>>8717550
>>
>will it be destroyed?
yes, the gold will be destroyed
>>
>>8717550
Terminal velocity is a function of atmosphere. Sorry, no.
>>
>>8717550
It will fall down back to you.
There is gravity on the moon.

If you throw it fast enough so that it could reach earth it will burn up in the atmosphere.

And even if it doesnt get destroyed, the city will take minimal damage.
>>
>>8720308
what if you'd use a railgun with a projectile speed of 2.5km/s and a tungsten projectile instead of gold?
>>
>>8717550
Yes.
>>
>>8718381
>2 km/s
>relativistic
