How likely is it for an extraterrestrial lifeform to be humanoid, even in the loosest sense of the word?
>>8696071
depends on the similarity of the environment to that of Earth. Earthlike-oids
>>8696071
You need hands to do shit

Theres a theory that Octopuses could theoretically become civilized in a few million years because there tentacles can use tools

>How likely is it for an extraterrestrial lifeform to be humanoid, even in the loosest sense of the word?
It's as likely as it is optimal for any given biosphere with sophants optimized for bipedal motion and tool use.

No one knows

So intellegent xD
>>8696071
Pretty likely. 2 front facing eyes for parallax vision for spatial reasoning. Arms with some sort of phelangies to manipulate objects. It could diverge around bipedialism to quadrapedialism depending on where the brain/sensory organs are located. Extremely unlikely it would be anything like the Arrival aliens, something much more familiar is probable.

It could be 100%, or it could be infinitely small, we don't know how likely or necessary it is for intelligent life to evolve with humanoid-like characteristics. Anybody who tells you different is full of shit.

Ugh
bmul

>It could be 100%
I don't see how it could be. What's to stop somethink like a smart octopus succesfully manipulating its environment and building things?
>>8696071
>extraterrestrial lifeform to be humanoid
It's possible, of course, but it's reasonably likely we will find only mindless bacteria, viruses and maybe bugs.
i've always hoped for some lovecraftian nth dimensional shit op, don't know about you

an octopus eating humanoid
>>8696071
Front-facing eyes would be common, and some form of grasping tools and good dexterity. Nearly everything else would be down to random mutations and environmental shit in the species' evolutionary history. So not likely at all I would say, though if we sampled enough species, I would say that by chance we'd probably come across one or two (guess) that had superficial similarities, even though their internal workings would likely still be very different.

Earth level gravity
Losing their tail and becoming bipedal meaning they have to be fully erect to balance themselves
Anything like trees that promotes the need for fingers which would eventually mutate something like thumbs.
