What should I know about zoology before getting into it and spending money on school?
>>
>>8634954
Why do you want to study it?
>>
>>8634955
Because since I was a child ive wanted to work with exotic animals, and as Ive gotten older ive started thinking more about conservation and protection of said animals. Realistically ill probably go through all this to shovel shit at a local zoo
>>

Cool. Kinda jelly. I think there are jobs with it. Keep your grades up though, since you might want to retain your ability to work in academia. Get involved in research as early as possible.

This. I'd also like to add that buckling down on the math and statistics will set you apart from a lot of your competition. Don't slack on the chem or genetics either. Consider also taking a course in GIS if you are able and interested.
>>

Yeah, I should have mentioned what this anon said too. Anything like matlab, python, r, stata etc. are an asset and will significantly set you apart.
>>
>>8634954

Go for it, even if you end up shoveling shit you'll at least have studied what you love.
>>
>>8634954
Also you'all need to be able to memorize things (like anatomy), understand stats, and some earth science. I went to school for this and also recommend R as well as GIS courses

What exactly is R and how can I get a leg up on learning it
>t. sci newbie

It's a programming language made by statisticians.

Download it and run some experiments with it.

Install programming language runtime environment,

https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/old/3.2.2/

Install programming IDE,
https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/
>>
>>8635058
Do you know much about basic statistics?
>>
>>8635182
not too much, I havent taken a stats class in years

You'll have a hard time getting it back, because that shit doesn't pay and isn't in demand.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
