I think the 28 day's later zombie is probably the most realistic form. Cause they're not the technical zombies, they aren't dead. They're just infected with this rabies-like thing that makes them go mental and attack/infect people. They don't eat them or anything, that's why they started starving and dying off.

Kind of spooky when you think about it being an out of hand rabies contagion.

Define "Reanimate"
You can easily send electrical impulses to muscles that are still working to make them contract or relax, they will eventually decay but will still work on their own if you manage to start blood circulation in what's left of the capillaries. If you ways to mediate or hijack most of the basic impulses of the Parasympathetic system you could EASILY have a working, moving body. They will eventually fail to function over time as some hormone-mediated functions of the organs are prevented.
You will still only have a sack of moving organs and nothing more, so if you want some sort of zombification the host must still be alive. No brain, No pulse.
