Name one good thing that has ever come out of space exploration. Justify all the money sunk into that pit over the years. Protip: You can't.

You really don't belong in /sci/ OP.

I don't know why you are torturing yourself by reading things that you don't relate to and often don't understand.

And then there are those that ask, "If we were on the Moon 50 years ago, why aren't we still going there?"

Digital electronics were devoloped mainly due to the need for compactness. Before then, most computation was done on analog circuits

Proportionally to the total spending of human being over the last century, all space related ventures fade to complete obscurity. The US currently spends about 20 billion dollars on its space agency, NASA. It spends 3.7 trillion dollars annually. I fail to see how around one half of one percent of our budget going to space exploration is any kind of concern, especially given that space exploration has helped lead the way to commercial satellite ventures that have done immense good in so many ways.

"Money pit" my ass. There's enough waste and stupidity in the Pentagon and other sections of the state to meet that description, don't suck poor little NASA into it. They have issues to be sure, but they've on the whole been a boon to research.

>>8612457
Lots of technology has been developed for space that can also be used in other areas. It has managed to get people hyped about technology so the kids want to become engineers or scientists.

The money has no value in itself, it's what you can get for it that matters. If more people are in tech then more new tech can be made which increases the value of money (for those who have money) because new stuff you can buy with money pops up which maybe would not have popped up otherwise.

As opposed to what other pit OP? The Coca Cola Company?

Let me remind you that the budget of NASA has almost never exceeded 0.5% of GDP the last 50 years.

I bet you even oil company subsidies are worth more than that.

>money sink
>USA GDP is about 18000 billion dollars
>USA space budget is about 20 billion dollars yearly
>USA uses 250 billion dollars a year for legal services; their law is so complicated and power so corrupted and inequal that you need professional people who've studied it for decades and business/politics connections to solve a problem regarding the ownership of your hot dog stand in your favor
>During financial crisis of USA Lehman brothers filed a bankruptcy of over 600 billion dollars (space budget for 30 years)
>USA military budget is about 600 billion dollars

>Benefits of space program include
>GPS
>anti-icing, anti-radiation, and anti-fire systems
>possibility of protecting Earth from meteors, cosmic rays, and solar disturbances
>computer programs for calculating trajectories and fluid flows that are used in military, science, and transportation

I'm not listing the possibility of colonizing other astronomical objects. That will never happen, and if it will, our feeble efforts during the 2th millenium will have absolutely no effect on it. Imagine using a day to walk 30 kilometers, then you invent a car. Your walk was meaningless.

Neither am I listing 'knowledge' as a benefit. Knowledge of our local solar system is too vague to put any economical value. What the fuck do we do with the information regarding formation of solar systems or galaxies. We are humans lol, those processes will never be in our control regardless of how much we know about them. Everything in space is too hostile and require too much energy and time for humans to ever set foot on.

What the fuck are you talking about? Are you implying anything done before a more advanced technology made it simpler was meaningless? This makes no sense.

Advantages for all of manknid:

-Advancement of techs
-More jobs means less recession (lots of high quality jobs)
-Poetical inspiration

Advantages for the us particularly

-Creates job for the us particularly
-Places them ahead, makes them the first to enjoy all the tech advancements
-very VERY good PR
-Potential military applications, military lead is every day more related to tech lead
-Keeps a lot of very good scientists from going overseas
-National icon and pride

If you fail to see all the benefit it brings to your country then you deserve to see your coutnry fail under the racist trump

For the people who don't now what I am talking about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_%2B_2_%2B_3_%2B_4_%2B_⋯

Imagine the number like it is a sphere more the number is big more the sphere that represant this number is big. Now imagine the sphere that represant negative number is just a verry small sphere.
So when we do an addition whis this verry small sphere and a normal one the result is a smaller sphere that the normal one because for exemple (10)+(-2)=8.
So now what happen when we are in the infinite?
The sphere keeps getting bigger and bigger so in comparasion the first number is like verry small sphere compared to the huge infinte number so what happen when we addition them? We get a smaller number. What do you thing? Have you a better way to understand this?
