Is studying anything related to computer science a waste of time compared to studying maths, unless I want to directly use it for practical purposes? Can I safely ignore formal CS?
The only college degree that gives jobs is Computer Science. You have two choices: CS or blue-collar work. Choose.

>Can I safely ignore formal CS?
Formal CS is mostly applied stats, calculus, and linear algebra.
So, from what I have seen, I would say yes.

>formal CS.... linear algebra
Lol are CS majors really this bad?
>>8608138
Only the Americans. In Europe we have physics and analysis

Are you retarded?

Elaborate. What's your objection?
What is your answer to OP's question?
>>8608145
How...how is physics even tangentially relevant to CS? Aside from the obvious base level of hardware...
>>8608213
I'm not that guy but formal CS is really based around the kind of math you see in theory of computation. Although the other mentions pop up a lot in machine learning.

>when eurofags post analysis and physics
Yeah dood I'm sure your "analysis" class is suuuuuuper rigorous. And your physics class tooooootally isn't physics 1 for retards
>>8608138
No those are 2nd year CS courses.

Why is it that people on /sci/ panic at the mere suggestion that someone somewhere may have studied something of substance?
>>8608218
>complexity studies limitations of time and space
>quantum theory
>general knowledge to go about life
>>8608257
It's a lie which is basically the main reason.
