Because there are more psychological and health benefits doing aerobic exercise than anaerobic. From my experience, most intelligent people I know are pretty active.

Its all a plot to create more chads and boost birth rates. Im too intelligent for this bullshit.

Routine exercise gives you more energy in day to day activities and lets you work harder and keep longer concentration, it doesnt augment your brain structure or anything to make you more intelligent.

You think autist college professors are smarter than a chad athlete?
Athletes are the smartest since they realize how worthless spending so much time in academia is.

Accomplished academics are very motivated people naturally. The marginal gain from exercising probably isn't worth it to them, as their natural levels of motivation and concentration ability are very high.

Most profs I know do some form of excercise throughout the week or go do active things on the weekends. Then again most profs I know are biologists, so your mileage may vary in other fields.
