Structural engineer faggot here
Let's see how /sci/ does
What is the normal stress (in the longitudinal direction) at each of the 5 points? Assume the plate has a unit thickness.
No finite element analysis allowed, first principles only.
A, B and C are assumed to be 'very close' to the top edge. D and E are midway between the short edges.
Fuck this horse shit. Give me some pure math.

Are you autistic?

>spends his entire day looking at ibeams in autocad
>calls anyone else autistic
LEL
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FABRICATE THIS
>>8514293
Do you really think that physicists or mathfags on this site understanding anything in their respective fields?
Mathfags and physicsfags are generally dumb though. Way over specialized without any ingenuity and with zero understanding of the big picture.

>ibeams in autocad
Nice meme retard.

>Mathfags and physicsfags are generally dumb though. Way over specialized without any ingenuity and with zero understanding of the big picture.
This is the purpose of the exercise.
>>8514293
Fuck off, we're not going to do your mechanics of materials homework.

lol, why?
In what application are problems like these even usable
>>8516450
This. At least math is useful
>>8516450
Gee, when would you ever need to know the stress a plate is subjected to. Let's just bolt some shit together and hope it works.
>>8516450
>t. physics or math major
IIRC this is combined stresses and this can be solved with basic algebra.
Don't remember the exact method i used though, the teacher named it after himself (yep lol), worked amazingly well. No statics equations at all, I have it written around there somewhere.
>>8517454
If you work in physics and have no idea what applications this has then I'm so sorry time you wasted on a physics major.

A: sigma0
B: sigma0 /2
C: 0
D: sigma0/4
E: 0

i have to agree, there's software to do all this for you.

3/5 correct
