I don't have much experience with pre-meds, but engineers are definitely some of the scummiest people alive. I'd be surprised if anyone's much worse than an engineer who thinks he's smarter than he really is because he managed to pass a dumbed-down differential equations course.

Speaking of experience - is pre-med pussy worth it?

In calculus we saw lots of arrogant engineers, myself included to some extent. Some thought they could get away without studying and they became Civil Enigneers.

After all the weed out courses were through, the survivors shaped up.

I was pre-med, but after I saw the insane amount of years it would take to become a pathologist and the amount of autism I would have to deal with (pre-meds are socially pathetic) I decided to just apply my interest in biochem and toxicology and do Pharm.
3 years later and I've been accepted to a couple good schools, pharm loans are still pretty high (around 150k) but I know I'll be able to start working at 26 (compared to the 32 as an MD) so I'm not too worried.

Pre-Meds are cancer in my experience. They go into medicine for "the money" and don't care about living systems. Though I am only in community college right now.

Most engineering majors are just good at being information sponges. They're not intelligent and it's their mission to convince you otherwise. Along the way they will also try to convince you how good their life is and how much money they're going to make when they graduate. They're combative, insufferable pricks always trying to one-up everyone else.

I fucking love it how the engineering majors here at UConn attempting a physics minor keep getting shit on for all the exams because they don't understand how to form independent logical methods for solving problems on the fly. They're too used to the open-note, group exams where the questions are the same as the HW problems but with different numbers.

Deep down they know their fucking place and they don't dare try to one-up any of us because they know they're fucking nothing compared to our intellect.

I actually have experience with both. I used to help medicine students with their theses (statistics etc). It's easy money. Those people are hard-working, they give you feedback, they usually smell nice, it's easy to talk to them as they are non-autistic, and I don't know, I love talking to girls in that semi-flirtatious way (100% of them were girls). It was nice, they kept recommending me to their peers, great times. Had to quit because I was actually part of a department at some point and it would have been weird.

So this year I've been tutoring a class of engineers (all kinds) and CS students in some pretty diluted physics course. And holy shit. There of course are some people who just do their work, but then there are these fucking assholes who just can't bring themselves to just do things right. Had this thing once:

>First page: They forgot to write their names on it
>Second page: They solved some integral numerically that they obviously should have calculated analytically
>Third page: Completely misunderstood the whole point of an exercise

Everybody fucks up, but they discussed everything like they were actually right with what they did. The first exercise was just Kepler stuff, they should calculate the Delta Es necessary for some maneuver, pretty simple stuff, all formulas were given. Some guy presents

There are specifically pre-med undergraduate courses, but you don't need any particular undergraduate degree to go into medicine. A high science GPA in a few prerequisite courses (or a post-bacc program), a decent MCAT score, and a displayed interest in medicine are pretty much all that's needed. You can be an English or Lib Arts or History major and still be "pre-med" in the broadest sense if you wind up going to med school.

I have intelligent friends pursuing engineering, cs, physics and math degrees.

It's always the man and not the degree.

It's sad though that there is some basis for /sci/s shit. Engineering BSc at many schools is essentially a cool sounding buzzword for people who just want a "good paying job". It wasn't always like that, but I guess a lot of schools simply added engineering to their curriculum so they can be hip like everyone else. However this isn't so different from other degrees; the average joe goes to university get a piece of paper and that's it.
Physics and math (plus some more hardcore eng. disciplines at reputable schools) have the distinction that very few average guys enter. Average in the sense that they at least have to lake the subject and have somewhat above average intelligence for a BSc.

At any proper university engineering should be part engineering (how to actually make stuff which works in the real world utilizing multiple different fields, using multidisciplinary knowledge) and experimental/applied physics. Eng. is extremely close exp. physics.

From my experience most physics majors aren't much better either, they can think up concepts, but most of their shit lacks any hard reality and most of them can't design even basic shit. Zero idea about the big picture; lost in their specialization meanwhile they think they know everything.

They might score better at individual tests, but they aren't that good at putting different things together, yet it's their job to do exactly that, the same as engineers in that regard, but for different purposes (at least at an undergrad level).

Generalization to the extreme is a bad thing though. You should always evaluate the man standing before you and not the papers he has (if he has any). It's a sign of intelligence which /sci/ apparently doesn't have.

I can still memorise things but to heavily rely on memorisation is bad for me. I don't want to rote learn something I don't understand just to pass a test. Albeit I had to do that to pass some 1st year studies but I'm really not good at it.

Most of my biology courses were at least 50-80% memory. My worst classes were the ones I had to memorise a lot and my best classes were the ones that I wrote reports or articles, more researching a topic.

What you listed isn't all that you need. Too many kids are following the "cookie-cutter approach" you listed, and they ultimately need DO NOT get in. You need to set yourself apart. That's the only good shot you will have at getting into Med.
