What practical use does ionization (preferably first) energy even have? Does knowing much energy it takes to knock an electron out have any real use?
The answer is none?
It allows us to tell if a reaction will be spontaneous or not

thats it? Is first ionization a truely useless study?

No because if a reaction is spontaneous that means it can be ignored because it is not a slow step in a series of reactions and therefore is not a limiting factor if you want to speed up the reaction.
