Current thinking leans in favour of the multiverse theorem.
I think it explains a lot, you can think of quantum mechanics as a function of the particle in some way oscillating through an extra dimension, which represents travel through the multiverse. This makes concepts like quantum tunneling much easier to digest. The oscillations are also time-independent, I believe
