The brain isn't some function independent processor of information, different neurons get activated for different purposes. Imagine an analogue with muscles, if you constrict all muscles at once, you are unable to move, it's the same with the brain, if you activate it all at once you get an epileptic seizure. Not to mention the 10% number is completely pulled out of anybody's ass.

In fact I think the origin of "you only use 10%" was some experiment in the infancy of neuroscience where you gradually removed parts of rodent brains, and they found rats were still alive and working after removing 90% of its cortex, or something like that. This is what I heard as an anecdote by some prof and I can't find source now, so this may also be a myth anyway.

you only use 10% AT A TIME. The rest is called MULTITASKING. You know how you have to "shift modes" in order to do stuff? There's a "cooking mode" where you remember everything about your stove, there's a "bathroom mode" where you're paying attention to how clean everything is, "video game" mode where your fingers are ready to push buttons etc.

these are the 10% portions you shift through one at a time, in order to use more % at once, you'd have to be performing an action or several actions that put you into different modes at once
