recently i got hooked on "the expanse" but hell, where did that genre go?
(appart from shitty productions with political correctness aka "we need at least a homosexual and a black on the cast and make the targeted audience 12-16)

any good recommendation and in case you didn't watch it: watch it. (it's even close to the books)

It won't return until 2017.

Nothing else much of note really.

The Strain is fairly okay, but different genre (horror with some medical sci-fi.) Everything has gone further and further into the pleb realm and sci-fi is really taking a backseat for the most part. 1 or 2 good shows or movies is basically nothing in a sea of piss. Even the remake of the Andromeda Strain wasn't good; fucking remakes man.

so I am at least not the only one who noticed.
not sure if I can wait all until january..

Try "Stranger Things", it is more fantasy with some sci-fi. It is good, but nothing sci-fi like the Expanse.
>>
I really liked Doctor Who
>>
I was hoping movies like Inception, Avatar, and Interstellar would have triggered more sci-fi movies and TV shows to be made that have more of a hard sci-fi slant. Perhaps The Expanse is one. I couldn't stomach watching Childhood's End due to the fact I abhor the book.

Its too expensive, most sci fi shows are just some modern day bullshit shot in Canada
>>

I liked Dark Matter. Neat premise of a bunch of people waking up on a ship with no idea who they are and who wiped their memories.
>>
Have you seen Lexx? Voyager and DS9 are also the pinnacle of Trek. Stargate SG1 is literally over 9000 minutes.
>>
>>8322582
Yeah. I hate that. Even back when there was a lot more sci-fi they still went as cheaply as possible.

Body/mind swap.
Human with tiny amount of makeup = alien.
Character is going crazy and no one believes them.
Mind control/Mind infection

OP wants new stuff. Probably with in the past 2 years, hopefully 2016.

Wayward Pines is another good choice. The less you know going in the better it is. Although halfway through season two it started getting a little ehh for me. The books were better.

If you're interested in anime then knights of sidonia is great, I usually hate mecha stuff but it avoids a lot of typical clichés
>>
It's not particularly recent but the last epic scifi was Battlestar Galactica. It had it's blemishes but it's still incredible. But I'm pretty sure everyone has seen it, I only mention it as my officemate recently admitted to not having seen it.

I stopped reading here. Really this is the only thing I've read about it, (which is next to nothing at all) that made me want to watch it. Not OP, fyi.

That one was "okay" but didn't inspire me and I only remember it because people recommend it.

>>8322601
That was pretty favorable, but that was 7 years ago when it ended. Most people on 4chan were 11 when that ended. lol

Lately?
Ill just list some goodies i have found and watch some trailers to see if they stick with you roughly the past 3-4 years.

Rick and Morty, BattleStar Galatica, Caprica, Ascension, Fringe, {Killjoys, Dark Matter, the Expanse} (all three i have dropped recently due to being bored of them), agents of shield, limitless, black mirror (one of the absolute best on this list, definitely start here but skip episode one. Every episode is unrelated)

Those are all i can think of atm. For a throw back, two of my all time favorite sci fi shows are next gen and firefly, hopefully both of which you have heard of at least.

Like >>8322992 says, I'll go ahead and recommend Battlestar Galactica, Fringe and Black Mirror.

But if you're willing to go further back in time, in case you haven't watched it yet, the reigning king is The X-Files for me.
