Why is there no huge focus on making a smart, strong, nible, android? Why is there no robot race with that being the moon walk? Robots that do specific tasks are nice and all but would it not be better to have one robot that can do just any task a human can do but better without getting tired or bored? An android would make an ideal astronaut.

>A gynoid is anything that resembles or pertains to the female human form. Though the term android refers to robotic humanoids regardless of apparent gender, the Greek prefix "andr-" refers to man in the masculine gendered sense.

You smartass.

Because it's useless?
Why would you make such a general-purpose yet restricted machine without any clear goal or purpose? There is literally no point in a humanoid robot that doesn't have a specific purpose(s). You make machines for actual reasons, not because sci-fi tells you, you need them and because you think they would be quaint.
There's a LOT of working going into general AI right now, just not into general AI inside of humanoid bodies. If we have a strong, general AI, it'll be useful for so much that having a humanoid body (or really a designated body at all) would not be interesting or particularly useful.

Elderly care for example. I can't think of a specific robot for this. Or just medical care in general. A robot could work with ill people without worrying about getting sick. And a robot could work around the clock.

Useless? OP just said they would make ideal astronauts, and there are numerous more reasons...

There are people working on that. But they're not putting *general* AI's in those; they're putting in AI's that are good specifically for those things.

But wouldn't you need an AI that is adaptable since everyone has different issues?
>>8318294
It needs to be adaptable *enough* -- Only as adaptable as you can afford to make it, given the limits on how much funding you'd be able to collect for such a project.
