I think that would probably depend on the situation.

For example the mean IQ of say international mathematics olympiad competitors is probably closer to 130 or higher than it is to 120.

Only losers place any stock in IQ. I've never met a colleague in my life who even mentions their's and I doubt any of them even know or have been tested. On the other hand, it's usually the most self apparent idiots who bring up this figure, especially when they brag of its size. You can try to do anything and in case of failure one of the very last obstacles will have been this so-called IQ you all seem to trust so much.
