Generally (say for chemistry or biology) you'll be supervised by a grad student or post doc.
Professors know better than to expect you to be able to do anything of value, safely, all by yourself.

You probably won't do anything useful. Most undergraduate researchers don't. However, even if you don't accomplish anything, it's good experience if you plan to go to graduate school.
You might even get your name on an actual paper.

Well, I have some undergrads doing some little useful stuff in my lab. Not common. Usually they cant do shit, but that's well known. Dont worry, go ahead.
