Currently a sophomore starting my aerospace engineering classes. I don't want to work as a military contractor, so should I rethink my major, or are there enough civilian aerospace jobs that I'll be fine?

most civilian aircraft jobs are outsourced to mexico now so you're fucked if you're American
ask yourself this: can your job actually be outsourced (defense jobs cannot be), if so then reconsider

Aerospace engineer here, I know how you feel. I've been offered defense jobs before, but I turn them down and only work in commercial aerospace. This may be doable, but it will be difficult. Right now, pretty much no new commercial aircraft are being designed. Your best bet would be to find a job on an assembly line where you work on concessions, that is, reanalyze parts that have been screwed up by manufacturing to see if they're still usable. Boeing and Airbus both have massive backlogs, so there'll be a lot of manufacturing work for the next decade. Hopefully, at some point, there'll be a demand for new designs.
Best of luck

>NASA isn't developing ways to fuck people up

If you do not develop weapons your enemy will. Designing weapons is the best way of being pacifist

Keked, idealists are hilarious.
Just go mechanical.

chemistry is literally the most interesting shit though, chem engs dont do much of the headache stuff in chem, but they do for other subjects
