Hi, /sci/. I think I found out somehting this morniug.

If you take any number whose combined digits add to 9 (18, 27, 54, 9, etc) no matter how much times you double or halve the number, the combined digits of the resulting number will add to 9

If you take any number whose digits add to 6 (33, 42, 87) or to 3 (11, 2'1, 6'6, etc), if you double or halve it, it will consecutivelly produce numbers whose digits add to 6 and 3.

For example:
6
6 x 2 = 12 (adds to 3)
12 x 2 =24 (adds to 6)
24 x 2 = 48 (adds to 12, which adds to 3)

If you get any other number and double or halve it, the added digits will, on each operation, be 1, then 2, 4, 8, 7, 5 and then 1 again,

example:

55 (adds to 1)
55 x 2 =110 (adds to 2)
110 x 2 = 220 (adds to 4)
220 x 2 = 440 (adds to 8)
440 x 2 = 880 (adds to 16, which adds to 7)
880 x 2 = 1760 (adds to 14 which adds to 5)
1760 x 2 = 3520 (adds to 10, which adds to 1)
3520 x 2 = 7040 (adds to 11, which adds to 2)

and then succesively. It works with decimal numbers too.

Is this something? Can this have any use besides mindfucking people at math parties?

The digits of any number divisible by 3 sum to a number divisible by 3. So yes, you found something, but it was already known :(
>>
>>8306318
that was just part of my post. What about the sequence of endless 1-2-4-8-7-5?
>>
>>8306322
>the missing numbers are 3-6-9
I mean what could it be?
>>
>>8306322
That's just the sequence 1-2-1-2-1-2... Modulo 3. Think of the accumulation of remainders mod 3...
>>
>>8306339
Or rather, working in Z/3Z, 1+1=2, 2+2=1, etc...
Look up cyclic groups maybe
>>
>>8306338
ok it googled 3 6 9 and something about tesla appeared. Then i found this, which is a whole paranormal explanation for OPs sequence (a fingerprint of god)

No you got it wrong - It's not his fingerprint, but his buttholeprint

>Numerology has been around for thousands of years, and it is obvious that the ancient jewish language is deeply coded with numerological meanings.

The actual mathematics here is called "modulo arithmetic." It's really not very interesting once you understand it.

The gist of it is that you're looking at numbers in base-10 because your ancestors who developed our number system had ten fingers. Turns out that 10 isn't a great choice for a base because it's divisible by both 5 and 2. So, repeating patterns pop up all the time when you work with numbers that aren't 5 or 2 or multiples of them.

For example, 3/7 = 0.4285714... which is just the sequence you stumbled on through your doubling/halving pattern.

Bottom line, you're just looking at remainders of things divided by 10 over and over. Look into modulo arithmetic if you want to understand it.

This is basic number theory.
Though it is good to discover these on your own like I did.
>>
Holy shit numbers divisible by 9 and three will be divisible by nine and three after I multiply them by two

Holy fuck
Anyway I'm done being a dick. Number theory is fun to think about OP

Here's something else to play around with, OP:

Instead of adding the digits, alternately subtract and add them instead.
e.g:
21 => 2-1=1
168 => 1-6+8=3
1344 =>1-3+4-4=-2

Look particularly into multiples of 11.
