>Every simply connected, closed 3-manifold is homeomorphic to the 3-sphere.
Who gives a damn?
>>8266095
you do obviously
people who work in the topology of 3-manifolds
>>8266095
I do, this sounds interesting. Would you care to elaborate, OP?

It's the Poincaje conjecture
It was solved by a Russian genius called Perelman
He was so autistic he rejected a 1 million dollar prize
>>8266129
>autistic
He did that because it should have been given to another guy. He also didn't take it because of the chinese guys that tried stealing their work.
>>8266131
he didn't think it should all go to hamilton but he felt that he was not the sole contributor to the proof since many mathematicians spent their lives on it.
>>8266141
Why didn't this megasperg just take the prize and give whatever sum he felt hamilton deserved to hamilton?
>>8266095
>pick a technical result in any field
>phrase it with lots of jargon
>"lol who cares?"
I don't "care" but I can use it
I dont know really anything about topology, but what was so hard about the Poincare conjecture that was so hard to prove?
Why is this difficult to prove? It sounds pretty intuitive if I'm honest. Though I'm still pretty shit a topology.
