An interesting observation.

Since ancient times the planet has been known as either Saturn or Cronus.
Cronus was a Greek Titan with a sickle or scythe.
Saturnus, the Roman god, was basically the Roman version of Cronus when they took over. Still depicted with a sickle and connected to the planet they saw moving across the skies. The modern name even come from them.

So

The curved blade was a symbol for the planet over 2000 years ago when the knowledge of the existence of Saturn's rings was impossible because no proper technology for observation was there yet. Out of the few planets they saw as little dots in the sky, Saturn, the only god damn one with rings, was given a sickle for some reason.

Has rings.
One ring to rule them all.
Marriage is binding.
A tribute to satan.

Cronus was known to devour his children in Greek mythology. When Galileo first observed Saturn and saw its rings, he mistook the rings as moons because his telescope was too shit to see the details. So when the rings were at a certain angle Galileo saw pic related.

But Galileo got really confused when the angle of the rings, unknowingly to him, was horizontal to Earth or the light of the Sun didn't reflect from them, making the "moons" disappear. And funnily enough, the connection the Greek (or Roman) was made on how Cronus (Saturn) devoured his sons.

There's some fucked up shit in Greek mythology, I'm sure other Titans or Gods ate stuff as well but Cronus is really the most famous one out of them. And again, out of all the fucking planets, the planet named Saturn is the one to hold that title.

Either all of this is an astronomical coincidence or people knew how to build some decent telescopes over 2000 years ago (even if they were just as shit as Galileo had) but the knowledge was lost for some reason (thanks, Christianity).
