What is the universe expanding into? What is on the other side of the expansion?
nothing, nothing
The universe isn't expanding INTO anything, its infinite.
There isn't any other side.

Stupid hippopotamus.

>What is the universe expanding into?
Lots and lots of empty space. At some point all the galaxy clusters will be invisible to each other.
>What is on the other side of the expansion?
There is no other side. Space itself is expanding.

Hell, of course. With the right invocations, you can create Einstein-Rosen bridges from Mars to there, as seen in the documentary "DOOM".
That's why the well-known satanist Elon Musk - an anagram for the arch demon KLEMONUS - wants to go there, to open the hidden portals and plunge humanity into neverending perdition.

HEADCANON ACCEPTED!
How do we know the universe is expanding? That's based upon the assumption that the stars we observe should be the same color as our sun.

>That's based upon the assumption that the stars we observe should be the same color as our sun.
How do you people come up with this?
>>8211972
>should be the same color as our sun
Why would you post about a topic you clearly do not understand?

All we're observing is that spectral bands are in different places in different parts of the universe. To translate that into expansion, you have to assume that the spectra are otherwise constant throughout the universe. The laws of physics may vary.
>>8211975
You can't actually see them move. It's based on the assumption that everything started from a point. Once this assumption is in place, we come to the conclusion that the universe is expanding. If the universe is expanding then we can work out their starting point. That's where the Big Bang comes in.

* that the spectra of hydrogen is the same everywhere
>>8211985
>The laws of physics may vary.
There is no reason to assume the law aren't the same everywhere.
>>8211997
Is there any reason to assume they are?

It fits our current framework.

A nigh infinite mantle constituted mainly of the prime particle storing all the data of the expanding universe.

Giant black holes, which themselves are being sucked into even bigger black holes, ad infinitum

>our models work better
Is there any reason supported by empirical evidence to suggest they are?
>>8212025
It fits our current framework of relativity. And relativity has been empirically proven time and time again to be right.

Oh look, I'm real smart, I know what the anthropogenic principle is!
>>8212025
Empirically, every single place we've been able to observe in the universe obeys the same laws. There is no evidence that the laws change elsewhere, although there is also no evidence to say they don't.
So either you Zeno your way into religion or you pick the one that is the easiest to work with and do some goddam science.

Are you a retard?
>>8211934
The universe is not expanding into anything, its just an infinite space and all reference points are expanding from each other.
>>8212065
No, but you are.
>>8212087
What is your problem?
>>8211910
It 'expands' into itself. From a 3D perspective, a 4D rotation appears as expansion/contraction. When you imagine a 'rotating' hyperdodecahedron you can get a glimpse of what 'expansion of the universe' really means: Eversion out-of/in-to itself.
Even from a 3D perspective, expansion cannot be distinguished from contraction when all accelerates towards the Great Attractor. What is 'before' you recedes from you, and you recede from what is 'behind' you: all you observe seems to move farther away from you.
Our neurological structure is playing tricks on us. Doesn't the sun 'rise' every day?
