Looking for a word to mean 3 dimensional 'slice' out of 4D object. 'Slice' is not good because it is usually used for describing something flat. Can someone help me please?

partition?

submanifold

Actually, Foliation would be a more specific term.

Technically that would be a hyperplane (N-1 dimensional subspace of N dimensional space).
>>8127783
cross section
or projection to whatever subspace is being considered

How about cross space?

you can use whatever word you want depending on what you need it for
are you trying to search for something?

Oh, I liked this one, sounds simple and meaningful. Thank you!

Subspace is an actual mathematical term. Peeps won't know what cross space is. Sounds like something dealing with cross products.

Yeah, but I need it for a presentation and "foliation" might be not very easy to understand. But I'll keep it for myself, thanks!
In seismology, when showing a 3D image of wave propagation at a given time (i.e. a "slice" of the full movie), we call it a "snapshot". I guess this only works if one of your dimensions is time. I think "slice" sounds fine and everyone knows what you're talking about. Maybe "3D slice at constant X". I prefer less jargon and more intuitive communication.

A hyperplasia if youactually want a "slice" in euclideab space. a hypersurface of you just want a codimension 1 submanifold
